Members of Ukraine’s security service, the SBU, were involved in an attack on a Russian A-50 military surveillance plane in Belarus that occurred on February 26 of this year, The Economist reported Monday.
The report cited a top-secret US document that is part of a trove of leaks from the Pentagon and other government agencies that have surfaced online. According to The Economist, the SBU determined on the day of the attack that “their own agents inĀ BelarusĀ had defied orders and attacked a Russian surveillance plane.”
The US learned SBU agents were involved in the attack by spying on Ukraine. The description of the SBU assessment is marked “SI-G.” According to The Economist, the acronym “indicates material derived from particularly sensitive signals intelligence, such as phone taps or electronic intercepts, according to officials familiar with the notation.”
According to what is believed to be a photo of the document circulating online, it reads: “Security Service of UKR (SBU) officials assessed that its agents in Belarus violated orders and attacked a RUS A-50U aircraft at Machulishchi Airfield, Belarus.”
At the time of the plane attack, Belarus’ exiled opposition celebrated the operation and said Belarusian “partisans” were responsible. On March 7, Russian media reported that Belarus’ State Security Committee determined that the Ukrainian SBU was involved in the sabotage.
The trove of leaks shows that the US is spying on officials in other countries, including Hungary, South Korea, and Israel. The Economist report said the US is also surveilling members of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the UN’s nuclear watchdog.
The US spying on Israel? OMG! “Oh happy day! Oh happy day!”
I’d be way more surprised if it was “leaked” we don’t spy on them or that they don’t reciprocate with their own.
i’m sure that israel is just riddled with uncle sam spies and vice-versa
Why the surprise? We spy on everyone, even American citizens. Consequently, Israel has a spy network in the U.S.. Years ago, around 9/11, Britt Hume at Fox News aired a piece on the Israeli spy network in the U.S. I saw that piece, but did not save it to my computer. May be a bit difficult to find now. He also talked about the “dancing Arabs” who were arrested, then sent back to Israel. Natenyahu said that 9/11 “was very good for Israel”. We never should have released Pollard. Aaron Milchan should never be allowed to produce another movie, after his admission that he spied for Israel in the U.S. and would do it again. I saw it too,
it’s not a spaceship man. took 5 seconds to find that =

Alot of the big “reveals” involve “no Schiff Sherlock” type of stuff.
Who else would have done the attack? The Ukrainian version of the A-team perhaps?
We also now know instead of the media’s claims that Russian forces are suffering huge losses they are achieving 2 kills for each of their deaths (they had to share the real numbers to show the faked 5 to 1 numbers was not real). Those numbers were going to come out and now they don’t look as bad as we focus on what they are not because someone put fake ones out.
We also know we need to get new weopon systems in there quickly because they are running out ammo for their Russian surplus stuff.
We also get to increase pressure on Egypt not to ship munitions to Russia literally after the weekend meeting in Syria between them and Assad and his patrons.
It really is looking like a lot of stuff that they kind of want to be out there or perhaps was written with the idea if it was leaked it would not be all that bad if it was.
Fair analysis ZaSu.
Greenwald last night shared some of this and fleshed out my paranoid leanings I have had ever since we heard about it.
We live in interesting times and a little bit of paranoia is not a bad thing.
