Two members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were killed in Israeli airstrikes that targeted the Syrian capital of Damascus on Friday.
The IRGC announced Friday that a military officer and advisor named Milad Heydari was killed in the Israeli attacks. On Sunday, they announced that another IRGC officer, Meqdad Mehghani Jafarabadi, succumbed to his wounds.
“Jafarabadi, a member of the Revolutionary Guards, was wounded in a criminal attack of the Zionist regime on Friday and was martyred due to the severity of his injuries,” the IRGC said in a statement, according to Middle East Eye.
The IRGC vowed revenge for the death of their officers. “The crimes of the Zionist regime will not go unanswered and they will pay for this,” the statement said. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kan’ani also said Tehran would respond.
The Israeli killings of the IRGC members came after the US military said it planned to target the Quds Force, a branch of the IRGC. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley told Congress that the US will target the IRGC’s Quds Force “very harshly over time.”
The Pentagon claimed it hit Quds Force facilities in Syria following a recent drone attack on a US base that killed a contractor. The Pentagon said eight militants were killed in the strikes, but none were Iranian. For their part, Iran says the US airstrikes hit civilian targets, not Iranian facilities.
Israel has stepped up its airstrikes in Syria and targeted the central province of Homs in attacks early Sunday that Syrian media reported wounded at least five Syrian soldiers. The incident marked the third Israeli airstrike in Syria within four days, an escalation that comes as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faces a political crisis at home over his planned judicial overhaul.
Earlier in March, Israel twice bombed Syria’s Aleppo airport, putting it temporarily out of service. Aleppo was devastated by the earthquake that hit Syria and Turkey on February 6, and the Israeli airstrikes cut off aid flights into the city.
Israel needs to put their d-ck back in their pants.
If it quacks like a d-ck…
Once again, Israel gets a pass. No one dares to call them out on their attacks.
They’re outlaws. They’ve always been outlaws, and they always will be outlaws.
It’s biblical.
IRCG is.
“an escalation that comes as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faces a political crisis at home over his planned judicial overhaul.”
How long must the rest of the world pay for the exceptional nations’ (USUKIS) internal problems?
Being an antiwar type I really have a hard time wanting someone to use force against someone else. But at some point, you just can’t keep taking it and you must respond in kind. When you’re dealing with scum that bombed your airport right after you suffered a devastating earthquake, how can you expect that scum’s behavior to change?
Speaking of scum, the Israeli government is crawling with it.
Looks like a coordinated US, Israel operation…!
very well could be.
Looks like the usual illegal activity in contravention of international law by a bunch of pimply-faced jackasses to me.
This is in conjunction with the coming civil war in Israel. It doesn’t look good for Israel anymore, but Wash. will come to the rescue with our money and kiss their little wounds with billions of our stolen wages.
What civil war?-people in Israel are peacefully protesting-go try that in Iran or Gaza. See what the local authorites would do to them
Just relaying what the Israeli President said: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/mar/15/israeli-president-civil-war-is-within-touching-distance
Our politicians also say all kinds of stupidity-people are protesting peacefully and may get a better leader.
Its called freedom of assembly-its called democracy.
Hope springs eternal, but too many times it’s mixed in with self deception and denial.
Well, here’s some links to the ‘mostly peaceful’* protests: https://duckduckgo.com/?t=lm&q=israel+protests+clashes+with+police&ia=web
*That quote comes from the US gov. on the BLM riots in the USA.
Ben-Gvir now has his own private militia. Sounds like Germany between WWI and WWII, doesn’t it? Who else had a private militia in Germany back then? Never hate anything or anyone, because you will become what you hate the most. https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/israeli-government-advances-ben-gvirs-national-guard-force-98302545
Here’s a link to the forbidden article here by Daniel Larison. You can’t access it from antiwar.com. https://www.theinteldrop.org/2023/03/31/centrist-dc-think-tank-us-should-threaten-war-regime-change-in-iran/
What is “You can’t access it from antiwar.com” supposed to mean?
Larison writes columns for us.
He also writes columns for Responsible Statecraft (https://responsiblestatecraft.org/), and at his Substack, Eunomia (https://daniellarison.substack.com/), and elsewhere.
We obviously run the columns he writes for us in full. We often link to his material elsewhere.
The particular column you link to also appeared at Responsible Statecraft, and was linked from Antiwar.com when it did.
When I clicked on the link on antiwar.com, I got this:

And so did Donna Volatile. See her post to confirm. I’m not lying. And, why don’t you let me back in on all the articles. Peace!
These out of touch hawks are simply doubling down (as usual, they know no other way per their programming) on their attempts to draw Iran into a kinetic war and have Congress authorize an military intervention. The only policy with which they have to work with is the Iranian Nukes hoax (they have no other), despite all evidence against it. It reminds me of right before the Iraq invasion, Rumsfeld and the White House, in their backdoor embassy diplomatic channel, they were using the language “tell Saddam Hussein to stop acquiring Weapons of Mass Destruction” or some such. The female American liaison in a tell-all book, describes being perplexed with the language. Every time she would go over there and enquire about this issue and get assured of their nonexistence, even as far as being invited to inspect, whenever she returned with the feedback she would be scolded and reminded that she was not insttucted to ASK about WMDs, she was TOLD to go warn them about their WMD program. So the US knows Iran doesn’t have nukes, that’s not the issue for them, the issue is to ignite that region in a hot war so it can return to being a hotbed of CIA activity, Islamic extremism, and a Chinese diplomacy failure. All this is for the benefit of Benjamin Netanyahu and his cohorts who have been advocating this for decades and they have familiars in all government institutions, sleeper factions that are never aligned nor serve the interest of America but rather Israel. This Daniel whatshisface is just writing empty words (nothing against him personally) but if he did intend to write an actual expose, he would write about those forces ALWAYS undermining American interests for Israel instead of something that is not new news.
AS they have come to kill Israeli citizens-they got what for. In their FARs paper they boast of their array hundreds of thousands of missiles, and plans for human wave attacks with a mix of military and civilians.
