President Biden on Friday signed the massive $858 billion 2023 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which is $45 billion more than he requested.
Also on Friday, the House passed the $1.7 trillion omnibus bill that includes funding for the NDAA, sending the legislation to President Biden’s desk. The mammoth spending bill passed through the House in a vote of 225-201, with only nine Republicans voting in favor.
To avert a government shutdown, Congress also passed a temporary one-week stopgap funding bill, which President Biden signed Friday. The temporary bill gives him until December 30 to sign the omnibus into law, which is expected to happen in the coming days.
The omnibus bill includes about $45 billion in new aid for Ukraine, bringing total US spending on the war to about $112 billion. More spending for Ukraine is packed into the NDAA, including $800 million in the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which allows the US government to purchase weapons for Kyiv.
The NDAA grants the Pentagon wartime purchasing powers by the NDAA that will allow it to waive some restrictions for arms purchases on certain weapons, making it easier for Washington to arm Kyiv and other countries that have sent aid to Ukraine.
The NDAA also includes unprecedented military aid for Taiwan by giving the island $2 billion in loans to purchase US-made weapons. China views the new aid as a major provocation and launched massive drills around Taiwan in response to Biden signing the NDAA.
For the n-th time in a row the audit of the DoD has failed. The auditors reported that they were unable to find out what had been done with much of the funding.
Imagine that an analogous inquiry had failed with Coca Cola. I assure you that heads would roll, including perhaps that of Coca Cola’s CEO.
I’m sure the idiot is all puffed up with his grotesque foreign policy. The democratic party is dead to me.
All Democrats and most Republicans are dead to me.
It is sad that we are still taxed by kleptocrat politicians who do not represent us. Remember the revolutionary war that created America, “No taxation without representation”.
“No taxation without representation” is a political slogan that originated in the American Revolution, and which expressed one of the primary grievances of colonists.
Also remember that Democrats have recently authorized 35,000 new armed tax collectors to shakedown American taxpayers.
$112 Billion spent on Ukraine in the past 9 months which is more than the US government has spent on our own government.
Wonder if the thought even crossed his robotic little mind that he was signing a document which would guarantee a catastrophic nuclear war with Russia that will be the end of the USA and maybe most of humanity as well? Ho, hum… The end of an empire is never a pretty sight.
Just a no-questions-asked pipeline of American wages into death merchants pockets, with a lot of war-mongering hand-waving on sites like this. Tired of pretty much all of it.
I guess this means we are not interested in balancing the books?…
It seems like everyone is lining their ducks up in a row…
For $1.7 trillion Dollars, they should be able to buy World Peace…(Whirled Peas…)
