Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday offered to ship gas to Europe through an undamaged line in the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, an idea that was quickly rejected by Germany.
Putin said that one line of the Nord Stream 2 remained pressurized despite the attacks on both Nord Stream pipelines that occurred last month and caused gas to leak into the Baltic Sea. Both lines of Nord Stream 1 were damaged, while only one Nord Stream 2 line leaked gas after the explosions.
Germany was quick to reject the idea of accepting Putin’s offer. “Independently of the possible sabotage of the two pipelines, we have seen that Russia is no longer a reliable energy supplier and that even before the damage to Nord Stream 1 there was no longer any gas flowing,” German government spokeswoman Christiane Hoffmann said, according to Al Jazeera.
When asked if Berlin had ruled out accepting Russian gas through the Nord Stream 2, Hoffman replied, “Yes.” Construction of Nord Stream 2 was completed last year, but the German government paused the project around the time Russia invaded Ukraine, and gas was never shipped to Europe through the pipeline.
Putin condemned the Nord Stream attacks as acts of terrorism. “The act of sabotage of the Nord Stream 1 and 2 is an act of international terrorism aimed at undermining energy security of the entire continent by blocking supplies of cheap energy,” he said.
Putin also said that there are countries that stand to gain from the sabotage, including Poland and the US. The US tried to stop the construction of Nord Stream 2 for years, and President Biden threatened to put an “end” to the pipeline if Russia invaded Ukraine. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has called the incident a “tremendous opportunity” to wean Europe off Russian gas.
While Washington and some of its allies have the motive to blow up the Nord Stream pipelines, at this point, it’s not clear who was responsible. Sweden is conducting an investigation of the attacks but will not share its findings with Russia or Gazprom, Russia’s state gas company. Gazprom is the majority owner of Nord Stream 1 and the sole owner of Nord Stream 2.
Take notice: Germany has just cut off its nose to spite its face.
Nah, Germany will be ok.
Nope. It won’t be ok. De-industrializing thereby killing your own economy and putting old people with limited income at risk of starvation and dying of cold is NOT ok.
Exaggerated assertion.
Germany is already transitioning to a new energy/gas and infrastructure with new gas suppliers and they are doing so in an accelerate pace. They may suffer for a year, but will be better off soon after. No one is going to die in Germany over a replaced or lack thereof 32% of gas imports from Russia.
mouth breathing?
The EU gas market is closed. Putin is feeling the burn now. The Russian GDP is going to take a huge hit by end of this year and Putin knows it hence his latest offer.
Selling cheap gas to China and India must be going very well.
It probably is, given the ruble is stronger than it was before the war. Stronger ruble is a good sign of GDP growth (i.e. even if their production is the same, the price in dollars is going up, hence higher GDP).
Puleeese! It’s perfectly clear.
(Add to all the other dispositive “data points” the fact that Sweden refuses to share the evidence that they collected as they “cleaned up” the crime scene.)

“Sweden won’t share the findings of its investigation into the Nord Stream attacks with Russia or Gazprom”
Don’t care. Some of us know the answer to Cui bono.

Russia Develops Transport Corridors to Solve Logistical Problems.
The Ukraine war is,in large part, an energy war,and the little people pay the price. Europe hated Trump, now under the fossil, they will freeze in Europe, the third world will starve, and in the US we will pay an arm and a leg for heat, light, and food.About 7 years ago, a prominent financial paper announced-“the era of cheap food is over”-They planned it that way.
Lies. It is so easy to lie when there is nobody of any authority to deal with lies. Russia did everything to bring Nord Stream II to completion. The operational Nord Stream I pipeline needs periodic maintenance of turbines. Turbines are manufactured by German Siemens. But after Ukraine conflict started, and now with Greens in coalition — Geman government decided to sabotage routine maintenance.
So instead of doing the maintenance at Siemens facility — Germany sent it to Siemens Canada.
Natirally, Canada declared that due to sanctions it could not return the turbine. After much ado, turbine was returned to Germany. BUT, German Siemens REFUSED TO CERTIFY the turbine. Russia was given the turbine without certification and contactually could not install it. The flow of gas was reduced. Then other thrbine was due, and Germany did notveven bother to pretend it will do work, The gas flow slowedveven more.
But it was Germany and EU that were publicly proclaiming their desire to rid themselves of Russian energy. So, a crisis became an opportunity, To rid themselves of Russisn energy — but do it cowardly, Declare it Russia’s fault! Russia is unreliable!
But Russia keeps on coming back. Offering relief to energy crisis, and to people who had no guilty conscience when resurrecting the specter of Nazi tradition and hurt Rusdian psyche. Empower Ukrainian fanatics to erase Russian culture from Ukraine, nust as West has erased its music, performers. literature from any form of cultursl scene.
Since the dsys of unbridled hate unleashed by an European superior culture in WWII — world has not sern such a tantrum over a conflict. Whst if the workd rreacted in the same way Iraq was invaded? Or Afghanistan? Or when Yhoslavis was broken up, and NATO blmbed Serbia just to declare Kosovo secession, and encourage the wholecworld to recognize it?
But it is only this cinflict that requires such level of indignation? Is it because only West bas the intrinsic rigt to invade. break countries. create new ones?
And untermenchen must be vilified , must be ostracized,
As if the whole world does not get it. Thoroughly.
