David Barnea, the head of Israel’s Mossad spy agency, wrapped up a trip in Washington on Thursday that was focused on Iran as Israel has been pushing hard for the Biden administration to exit nuclear deal negotiations with Tehran.
According to a statement from the Israeli prime minister’s office, Barnea stressed to officials in Washington that Israel “will not be able to stand idly by while Iran continues to deceive the world.”
Barnea arrived in Washington on Monday and held meeting with CIA Director William Burns, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley, FBI Director Christopher Wray, and senior State Department officials.
The Israeli pressure against the Iran nuclear deal, known as the JCPOA, appears to be working as the US reacted negatively to Tehran’s latest response in the negotiations, and the EU has said the deal is in “danger.”
The Israeli news website Zman Yisrael reported on Wednesday that the US has told Israel that any agreement with Iran is off the table, at least for now. The report said President Biden and other US officials conveyed this message to Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid in recent conversations.
The Zman Yisrael report has not been confirmed, but Lapid has said publicly that he believes his pressure has been “working.” It’s not clear if the US will officially abandon the EU-mediated negotiations with Iran or continue dragging them out.
Israel is opposed to the JCPOA because it does not last forever, but after the agreement expires, Tehran will still be bound by the Non-Proliferation Treaty. Israel refuses to sign the NPT due to its secret nuclear weapons program and stockpile.
Israel can kiss my lily white a–!
And my semi-white one, Donna 😉
Israel has NEVER stood by – always making attacks on women and children just to show that they can.
They need their asses kicked – and kicked HARD.
Perhaps China andRussia could decide that Israel needs to stop the threats…… and ANY ideas of attacking their ENERGY source. How many 30 Kt strikes would it take to wreck the place for a decade or two? How many 100 megaton Russian bombs to end the colonial apartheid project forever…???????
Without the US Israel is a dead duck .
Patience, Grasshopper.
Soon enough the United Snakes will be a dead duck itself and unable to keep feeding the rabid little pit bull.
The U.S. of A., the most powerful country in the world, hegemon #1, loaded with nukes, is told what to do by an tiny, illegitimate, country what to do and when to do it. Does that sound just a little ridiculous?
As Iran deceives the world? That is rich.
“Israel is opposed to the JCPOA because it does not last forever,…”
Nothing lasts forever except Israel’s meddling.
Let’s have a fun quiz here for our AntiWar contestants.
Of Iran or Israel:
Which country does not assassinate civilian citizens of other nations ?
Which nation has a religious leader who maintains that nuclear weapons are not compatible with its practiced religion?
Which country wished to join JCPOA?
Which country is not continually murdering members of its indigenous population?
Which country does not actually possess nuclear weapons?
DING! Time’s up! If you answered “Iran” to every question, you’re a winner!
And if you answered “ Israel” to even one question, you’re a loser in every way.
The answer to at least two of those questions is “neither.”
Not so fast dummy
In 1994, the Argentine Israelite MutualAssociation Building was blown up killing 85 and wounding 300.
Argentine prosecutors Alberto Nisman and Marcelo Martínez Burgos formally accused the Iranian government of directing the bombing, and Hezbollah of carrying it out. Nisman claimed that Iran had ordered the attack in response to the suspension of nuclear cooperation between Argentina and Iran in the aftermath of the 1992 attack on Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires. Nisman was murdered in 2014.
During anti government demonstrations in Iran in November, 2019, 1500 people were killed by security forces (including 400 women)
Iran has executed many gay men for committing sodomy. Ruhollah Khomeini called for them to be exterminated in 1979
When in doubt, it’s 1994 again.
And comparably speaking Israel makes Iran look passive.
Oh yes, the incident which they have no evidence Iran was involved in.
Yes. I’m sure you’ve done a thorough review of the case. The attack was a suicide bombing carried out by Ibrahim Hussein Berro, a 21-year-old Hezbollah operative who has been honored with a plaque in southern Lebanon for his “martyrdom” on 18 July 1994, the date of the bombing.
That’s the claim, which no court reviewed. Claims are cheap in international relations. There are a hell of a lot of claims against Israel as well you know.
Yes. It is a claim based on a significant amount of evidence. It’s strange how Nisman, the prosecutor who made the accusation was murdered. If you’re waiting for Hezbollah or Iran to allow an investigation and trial, there will never be “satisfactory” evidence. Israel has a free press and judiciary. No comparison.
Rubbish. Virtue signaling doesn’t cut it, Mossad and Western covert warfare agencies are masters if lies and have no hesitation about faking evidence and pumping out propaganda. Claims which no court has reviewed are worse that worthless.
Sorry. You give a pass to the worst abusers of human rights because they won’t allow an impartial “court review”.
Sometimes you must come to reasonable conclusions based on available evidence when the suspects do not cooperate.
Sure, and any reasonable review of evidence will say that many countries commit really, really terrible human rights abuses, including the USA. The ‘War on terror’ was basically a war on human rights killing and maiming countless thousands of innocent people, all based on lies.
Has and does Iran do bad things? Probably. But I sure as hell don’t trust any story about it given to us by America. And no, the opinion of a prosecutor isn’t good enough either. Also, hostility to a country with a bad government doesn’t improve the situation, it just takes us into pointless wars that make our own governments worse and worse. Waging an unjust war makes you more and more like the enemy you hate.
There is some truth to what you say. But the war on terror was a good idea that was poorly executed. In the case of Israel and Iran, I don’t doubt for a minute that if the Iranians were not so hostile and threatening, Israel would leave them alone. And there is a war being waged by Islamists against the west. We can’t just sit back and let it happen…unless you don’t care.
If Israel hadn’t ethnically cleansed hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, killed thousands of them, stole their property and their land, and continued to steal their land to the present day, then maybe there would be less hostility towards them in the Arab and Muslim parts of the world.
The war on terror was based on a huge, steaming pile of lies. A series of aggressive wars, restrictions on freedom, massive growth of the military industrial complex. The boogeyman of Islamist terrorism was basically a tiny mouse, until Western governments turned it into a dragon, often by funding it directly themselves to fight their proxy wars. There’s basically no truth to the stories at all, they had to torture all their suspects to say all the things they claimed were true. The government are the terrorists.
Where to begin?
Israel has not stolen the land. The Jews have a 3500 year history of continuous presence on that land. Had the Arabs accepted the 1948 partition there would be two states. But they did not. In 1967, israel waged a perfectly legitimate defensive war and won the West Bank and Gaza. In spite of this, after the war their offer to give everything back was met with the famous “three no’s” in Khartoum. No negotiations, no recognition and no peace.
Israel has not “ethnically cleansed” the Palestinians. In 1948 there were 900,000 Palestinians in that territory. Today there are 7 million
Since 1920, about 40,000 Jews have been killed in this conflict and about 90,000 Arabs/Palestinians (the majority were Arab soldiers killed in the wars)
Hostility towards Israel is based primarily on religion. The idea that Jews created a country on land that was at one time under Islamic rule is contrary to Islamic dogma that states that once land is Muslim it must remain so. The fact that one of the countries most hostile to Israel is Pakistan should tell you that this is a religious conflict.
You’re trying to defend the ethnic cleansing of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians on the basis that Jews also lived there. That’s not a justification. Why do you think that justifies forcing Palestinians from their land, stealing their property, and killing them if they resist?
Arabs didn’t accept it? What Arabs? Why are you taking about an ethnic group in that way – are you advocating collective guilt? This is exactly the sort of racism that turns Israel into a pariah state.
Israel launched an unprovoked war of aggression in 1967. It’s appalling that your believe otherwise.
Israel’s existence as a “Jewish State” is based on religious and racial supremacism. That’s a self evident fact. Of course that puts it into conflict with its neighbours. It relies instead on the support of Christian ethno nationalists in the USA and Europe who like racism against Palestinians and religious hatred against Muslims.
The Masters of Deception…
If you have to go back to 1979, that’s…just….pathetic.
I suppose I should have conditioned my “quiz” to PRESENT DAY IRAN AND ISRAEL, which, in the scheme of things, is what’s important.
Iran has executed at least 251 people between 1 January and 30 June 2022, according to research by the Abdorrahman Boroumand Centre for Human Rights in Iran and Amnesty International. Feel better?
I’d be willing to bet that the state of Texas executed more people than that in the last year.
How much?
I was speaking metaphorically.
You diss Iran for executing people while ignoring the fact that many states in Amerikkka retain the death penalty. Texas leads in executions.
Ask Thomas about his state. My state is not one of them however, and in fact was the first place in North Amerikkka to abolish it.
In which state do you live?
The one that’s shaped like a mitten.
oh i thought that was an oven mitt
It was today, PN…hot here
today was the least hot we have had all summer in L.A.
The Iranian regime seems to have been conducting foreign assassinations at least as recently as 2017 (British national Saeed Karimian, shot to death in Turkey).
These days they seem more inclined to imprison or “disappear” Christians and Bahais than openly murder them, though.
Masoud Molavi Vardanjani, an Iranian dissident, was shot dead in Istanbul on Nov 14, 2019. Turkish and U.S. officials said that Iran was behind the assassination.
In February 2021,Turkish authorities arrested Mohammad Reza Naserzadeh, an Iranian working in the civil registry department at the Iranian consulate in Istanbul for his role in the assassination
I’d take the word of Amerikkka and Turkiye about as likely as I’d take that of IsraHell.
He was also Iranian national.
Hmmm . Wonder how many people the Clintons have assassinated.
US regime bad /= Iranian regime good
At the level of regimes and geo-politics, there are no good guys. There are just better and worse bad guys.
Going back to the days of ancient Persia, Iran has been a heavyweight regional power. It acts like one and intends to remain one. It is not run by saints who quail from getting their hands dirty any more than Israel is.
Seems to have isn’t good enough. The Israeli media openly boasts about their assassinations. The American government officials declares their drone murder endeavors. Iran systematically condemn these terrorist attacks, but Israel and the USA expect us to automatically trust the claims Iran is the baddie. Actually no, that’s just not good enough.
Oh well if Iran condemns, then we should believe them. Just like when they denied shooting down Ukraine Air 752 killing 176 people and denied it until it was no longer possible
They denied in for a few hours or days. America denied shooting down Iran Air Flight 655 for years, promoted the captain responsible for the mass murder, before finally paying compensation and refusing to apologize.
extra credit question #1 :
which country signed the NNPT (Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty)
even though they had no nuclear items to proliferate ?
answer = Iran
extra credit question #2:
and which country refused to sign it all the while pretending that they had no nukes ?
answer = Israel
PN, YOU WON!
