The Biden administration on Friday announced a new $820 million weapons package for Ukraine, which includes National/Norwegian Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems (NASAMS) for the first time.
The NASAMS is a joint project between the Norway-based Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace and Raytheon, the US weapons maker that Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin worked for as a board member before taking his post at the Pentagon.
The NASAMS is an air defense system with a range of over 100 miles and is used to protect the air space around the White House and the Capitol Building. US officials made it known earlier in the week that Washington would be sending the NASAMS to Ukraine.
The new weapons package also includes additional ammunition for the High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), up to 150,000 rounds of 155mm artillery ammunition, and four additional counter-artillery radars. The money for the arms is being pulled from the $40 billion Ukraine aid bill that Biden signed in May.
Of the $820 million, $50 million is for the HIMARS ammunition and uses the presidential drawdown authority, which allows Biden to send Ukraine arms directly from the US military’s stockpiles. The remaining $770 million is for the rest of the weapons and comes from the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), an authority the president can use to purchase weapons for Kyiv.

All the pretense of human rights, freedom, international agreements yet the USA still refuses to notice that the Ukrainian government got rid of opposition Parties, Russian language/books/rights of any kind, investigation of “atrocities by Russians”. It provides advanced weapons without adequate training and knowing that most will be destroyed or captured by the professional Russian army and newly recruited soldiers will be killed or captured as they are forced to fight to the last man (or woman). Try to make peace before you are completely overwhelmed. You were warned that conditions would become stricter yet you pushed the Ukrainians to press on to their destruction.

Ukraine has said it needs $5-6 billion each month. It has said it needs 1,000 new artillery pieces, with ammo for them.
On that scale, $0.8 billion is failure. The UK’s $0.1 over the next year is not going to make up that difference. Six more artillery pieces from France won’t do it either, nor the first six from Germany, no matter how wonderful the media images of them may be. Neither does re-directing to Ukraine Taiwan’s 100 or so new artillery pieces already made in the US (there are no more to be had, which is why they had to be taken from Taiwan).
Biden says a lot, but he has not done it, and frankly can’t possibly do it.
He either knows that and lies, or is so incompetent he does not realize the plain truth clear from loud and constant public announcements. Either way, he is the same sort of useless fool we saw in Trump, but he made a new war to showcase that.
