European Union leaders on Thursday granted Ukraine and Moldova candidate status, the first official step towards membership for the former Soviet states, although the full process will take years, potentially over a decade.
“The Ukrainian people belong to the European family. Ukraine’s future is with the EU,” said Josep Borrel, the EU’s foreign policy chief. “Today marks the beginning of a long journey that we will walk together.”
The decision for Ukraine was viewed by Western media as a symbolic victory for Ukraine as it is battling Russian forces in the Donbas. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the EU decision was “a unique and historic moment.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin said last week that he doesn’t care if Ukraine joins the EU since it’s not a military alliance. “We have nothing against it. It’s their sovereign decision to join economic unions or not … It’s their business, the business of the Ukrainian people,” Putin said.
One of Russia’s main motives for invading Ukraine was Kyiv’s alignment with NATO. Under a peace deal Moscow proposed in March, Ukraine could still join the EU as long as it declared military neutrality, but ceasefire talks have since stalled, and Russia continues to make territorial gains in the east.
There won’t be any ukraine (or EU) to speak of when their number turns up, if ever. Turkey has been waiting since 1987 to become fully anĂźlussed to the European Borg collective, but to no avail. Europe is still not interested of being overwhelmed with 80 million Muslim turks (been there done that) and beside, slowly leaving its medieval mindset, turkey is doing splendidly in the new multipolar world it seems.
Moldova is the poorest country on the western Eurasian continent, Ukraine is the second poorest country. Both of these countries are also the richest food production breadbaskets of Europe. Here lies the riddle that western US/NATO barbarians censor from their information propagation.
Is it possible that the same people who use brown wage slaves to feed them also use white Moldovan and Ukrainian wage slaves for the same purpose?
Could this riddle explain why most of the world is turning its back on US/NATO?
Apparently those leaders are badly out of touch with some of their constituents. A recent poll in Germany has shown 35% for, 35% against, the rest undecided about the EU membership of Ukraine. The anti’s: why add a near-bankrupt state?
Why not? Ukraine is a great country that wants to improve in all aspects of development plus has shown that it has more balls than all EU countries put together.
Candidacy of Ukraine and Moldova means Wait 35 Years…!
By then there won’t be a Ukraine. lol
What Putin means is that when this is over, Ukraine can join the Russian economy. Which, being it will be part of the Russian Federation, makes rather a lot of sense. Then the EU can join Russia if they want. 🙂
