President Biden said Friday that the Slovak government has sent a Soviet-designed S-300 surface-to-air missile defense system to Ukraine. In return, the US is sending a Patriot missile system to Slovakia.
“I want to thank the Slovakian government for providing an S-300 air defense system to Ukraine, something President Zelenskyy has personally raised with me in our conversations. To enable this transfer and ensure the continued security of Slovakia, the United States will reposition a US Patriot missile system to Slovakia,” Biden said in a statement.
Announcing the move, Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger said it does not mean Slovakia is entering the war. “The donation of the system does not mean that the Slovak Republic has become a part of the armed conflict in Ukraine,” Heger said.
Ukraine has been pleading with the US and NATO to send S-300s as well as warplanes and tanks. Earlier this week, The Wall Street Journal reported that the Czech Republic said it had delivered slightly more than a dozen Soviet-designed T-72M tanks.
NATO military aid had previously been limited to shoulder-fired anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles. The S-300 and tank deliveries mark an escalation in the Western campaign to pour weapons into Ukraine, and more arms are coming.
On Thursday, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba traveled to Brussels to meet with NATO ministers and pleaded for more advanced equipment. After the meeting, UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said NATO members agreed to start providing Ukraine with “new and heavier” weapons.
When it comes to the heavier equipment, Ukraine needs Soviet-designed systems, since that’s what their armed forces are trained to use. But Truss said NATO members agreed “to help Ukrainian forces move from their Soviet-era equipment to NATO standard equipment, on a bilateral basis.” Her comments signal that NATO is preparing for the long-term.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the US was looking at sending Ukraine “new systems.” Since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, the Biden administration has pledged $1.7 billion in new military aid for the Ukrainians.
Yes, it exactly mean that to Russia…!
The UK has announced further military aid for #Ukraine:
✅ Over 800 more NLAW anti-tank missiles.
✅ More Javelin anti-tank systems.
✅ More Starstreak air defence systems.
✅ More equipment including helmets, armour and night vision goggles.
All to be destroyed soon and shatter your hope… Time to cry…!
I’m still waiting for any report that a weapons transfer has been intercepted by the Russians.
Or any deliveries received by ukraine.
Oh, they seem very content with what they are receiving.
On top of all the colonels, at least seven Russian generals have been killed in fighting, more than during the entire 10-year brutal Soviet campaign in Afghanistan in the 1980s where five generals died 😀
Are your sure it’s our hope that will be shattered?
Can only add to the bloodshed . The outcome is a forgone conclusion

The zinc coffin is standing in the entrance hall of the university.
Yury Dushkin was a private in the Russian army. A notice in the hall states that he died in combat in Ukraine under artillery fire. Dushkin was 23.
His mother Olga is sitting on one of the folding chairs next to the coffin, holding a photo of her son in her hands. It shows a young man in uniform peering earnestly into the camera with a narrow face and slightly protruding ears…
Another target for the Russian missiles.
Yeah, they have been so great at hitting the existing S-300 systems in Ukraine 🤣🤣
Russian metals company Rusal has called for an investigation into the killing of civilians in Bucha, a suburb of the Ukrainian capital Kiev.
Rusal Chairman Bernard Zonneveld said in a statement that recent reports of atrocities from the town, which was occupied by Russian troops for a month until the end of March, had shocked the company.
“We believe that this crime should be thoroughly investigated,” he said. “We support an objective and impartial investigation of this crime and call for severe punishment for the perpetrators.”
Did anyone say Wagner?
The Azov Nazis did this, you fool. The investigation is sought by Rusal to establish that self-evident truth.
So, there will be no investigation.
Love that finger-pointing avatar.
Yes, it was Nazis alright.
They all called the Wagner group. Get it right, please.
Ka-ching! ka-ching! Ramp up those production lines! We got ourselves a war going! Yahoo! There’s money to be made!
Always look on the capitalistic side of life! lol 😉
Finland and Sweden could soon join NATO, moves that would likely infuriate Moscow and that officials say would further underscore Russia’s strategic error in invading Ukraine.
Discussions about Sweden and Finland joining the bloc have gotten extremely serious since Russia’s invasion.
Public opinion in both countries about joining the defensive alliance has shifted significantly as Russia’s war in Ukraine wages on, with one former Finnish Prime Minister saying the move to join “was pretty much a done deal on the 24th of February, when Russia invaded.”
Opps…
When the American economy goes down the tubes then NATO membership won’t be worth the paper the agreement was printed on. Sweden and Finland will wish they had stayed neutral.
Maybe, but it seems very likely they will soon join NATO.
That will significantly strengthen the alliance’s position in the far North. 💪
It’s a shame for them. Their neutrality has served them well. Extremely foolish of them to throw that away. And I’m not sure being aligned with NATO would really make it safer for them. Especially when the US empire comes tumbling down. And it will come tumbling down.
Being neutral is extremely expensive as you must invest a lot more in your defence.
Apart from the US, NATO has strong members as the UK, France, Italy and Germany (when they have ramped up their defense spending). Plus Sweden and Finland’s neighbours, Norway, Denmark and the Baltic states are all NATO members.
So I think they will be in good company 👍
The European economies will collapse even before the United States economy. Which will mean no resources to expand their defensive capabilities. It’s not looking good for Europe, unless they are able to resist sacrificing themselves for the sake of the US empire’s imperialistic ambitions. To do that they need to stay friends with Russia.
Long before the US and the EU run the risk of collapsing, Russia will implode.
It’s about to go into default for the first time in over a 100 years…
Russia will be just fine. They are well positioned to make any adjustments they need to make in order to to thrive. Unlike the US and Europe, which have mismanaged their economies for a long time. The US could possibly make the necessary adjustments, but I seriously doubt that their leaders have the wisdom or the fortitude to do so. Europe is toast, unless they keep their friendship with Russia alive.
Thrive? Like they are thriving now? Sure.
Putin and the oligarchs will be fine, not the people though.
The planet is round energy and resources will come from other directions.
Putin didnt give them a chance to think about it. They knew, after Ukraine, the Baltics and Finland would be next.
Oh no. Before that happens, you’ll see Putin’s economy brought down to ruble.
The west cares so much for Ukraine that is transferring Soviet era weapons to them. Almost like a bad joke.
I’m looking at photos of Ukrainian soldiers holding these weapons and thinking what a shame that a lot of these soldiers (people) will soon be dead because we keep sending all of those goddamn weapons to them.
Ukranians are defeating the all mighty red paper army with primitive weaponry. What a shame.
Just to make it a fair fight. Russia has the paper army and Ukraine the soviet era equipment. Based on performance, the russian army is being outperformed by a poorer smaller country with soviet era weapons. Pays to have a disciplined army.
What a joke. And Slovakia is getting a big downgrade.
