On Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki accused Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) of “parroting Russian talking points” after he sent a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken calling for the Biden administration to drop support for Ukraine’s potential NATO membership.
“If you are digesting Russian misinformation and parroting Russian talking points, you are not aligned with longstanding bipartisan American values, which is to stand up for the sovereignty of countries like Ukraine, but others,” Psaki told reporters at a press briefing.
“That applies to Sen. Hawley, but it also applies to others who may be parroting the talking points of Russian propagandist leaders,” she added.
Since Hawley is no dove, he responded by accusing the Biden administration of “coddling” Russia. One of his examples was Biden “giving” Moscow the Nord Stream 2 pipeline even though a pipeline that runs from Germany to Russia isn’t Washington’s to give.
In his letter to Blinken, Hawley said the US should still “urgently deliver” military aid to Ukraine and said the Biden administration shouldn’t commit to war in Eastern Europe so the US can focus on confronting China. Like many hawks in Washington, Hawley wants the US’s primary foreign policy focus to be on Beijing.
“The United States can no longer carry the heavy burden it once did in other regions of the world — including Europe. To the contrary, we must do less in those secondary theaters in order to prioritize denying China’s hegemonic ambitions in the Indo-Pacific,” Hawley wrote.
Hawley favors increasing US support for Taiwan and introduced a bill last November that would give the island $3 billion in military aid.
While I do not care for Senator Hawley, her statement is outrageous. A senstor is supposed to go along with the decidion this administration made, and he is unquestioningly supposed to salute!
If course, this means that there is no bipartisan deccision made. Really, who does foreign policy?
When Trump was the President as I recall Democrats in Congress actually did not mych of anything but demanded their right to eversee the president’s foreign policy.

Agreed. Furthermore, they label people as “Russian stooges” even if they were arguing that they prefer war with China first but still want war with Russia later. Hawley is a perfect example.
To be fair, “No, seriously, I want a war with Russia too! But let’s do something bigger and more complicated for a decade or two first” is definitely something a Russian stooge might say.
That is not what a “stooge” would say … that’s what a paid-up member of the hate-China crowd would say.
But at least he’s right about Ukraine … small wins are all we get these days.

What Hawley said is only common sense if you want to have your cake, eat it, and then insist you really meant to eat a different cake and it’s someone else’s fault you ate the first one.
He made real common sense when he said Ukraine shouldn’t allowed to join NATO but the rest of what came out of that pie hole was typical warmongering bullshit. China instead of Russia isn’t exactly encouraging.

Americans are not on-side with the Biden Admin, because the Biden Admin has not convinced us that it is pursing any real US national interest. He’s not a dictator who can direct us by fiat.
