Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited Ukraine on Wednesday and hyped up the threat of a potential Russian invasion, warning Russia could attack on “very short notice.”
“We know that there are plans in place to increase that force even more on very short notice, and that gives President Putin the capacity, also on very short notice, to take further aggressive action against Ukraine,” Blinken told the staff of the US Embassy in Kyiv.
Since November, the US has been warning Russia is plotting to invade Ukraine. Moscow has denied the accusation, but Biden administration officials continue to make the claim just about every day.
Blinken met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other Ukrainian officials and promised more US support. While Blinken was in Kyiv, the State Department announced that the US is giving Ukraine an additional $200 million in military aid.
Blinken will be in Berlin on Thursday and is set to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Geneva on Friday. Despite the harsh rhetoric, the US and Russia have managed to continue a dialogue. President Biden said Wednesday that there is “room to work” with the Russians on Ukraine and the security guarantees President Vladimir Putin is seeking.
Note that Blinken also said there would be no written response to the Russians about last week’s treaty proposals when he meets with Lavrov. The US side agreed to a written response and none have been forthcoming. This is just a blatant diplomatic snub to the Russians. I can’t imagine how Lavrov is going to react in his next press conference.
Biden is clueless and appears either completely out of the loop or is on board with the upcoming war. There is no “room to work” with this sort of behavior. Biden is just moving his lips, as usual.
What is more important than his visit to Kiev is the CIA Director also visited Ukraine. Which means Zelensky has been given his marching orders to attack Donbass. It’s also hypothesized that this is where the nonsense about a “false flag” by Russia originated – from Ukraine intelligence. Although personally I suspect the “intelligence” went in the other direction – from the CIA to Zelensky.
This is a European issue and let the Europeans deal with it.
Americans have done enough to save Europe from itself last century. And,
our so called NATO allies still don’t pay their share to protect
themselves. And, every time there’s a so called ‘coalition’ force, the
other NATO countries send a few hundred as America sends thousands and
does most of the dying, as happened in Vietnam when SEATO collapsed.
Also, Korea, and Afghanistan are examples.
