On Wednesday, President Biden told reporters that he is not considering sending troops to Ukraine to confront Russia.
Biden’s comments came a day after he spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin about the tensions surrounding Ukraine. The US is accusing Russia of building up troops near Ukraine to prepare for an invasion, a charge that Moscow denies.
“That is not on the table,” Biden said when asked by reporters if the US would send troops to Ukraine if Russia invades. The president noted that Ukraine is not a member of NATO and has no security guarantees from the US or the alliance.
“We have a moral obligation and a legal obligation to our NATO allies if they were to attack under Article 5, it’s a sacred obligation. That obligation does not extend to … Ukraine,” he said.
During talks with Putin, Biden warned that if Russia invaded, the US would impose harsh sanctions on Moscow, send more troops to NATO’s “eastern flank” that borders Russia, and send more weapons to Ukraine.
Putin said Wednesday that he hopes to continue dialogue with the US on the situations and plans on sending proposals to Washington to reduce tensions. The Russian leader is seeking guarantees that NATO won’t continue to expand eastward or put missiles in Ukraine that could target Russian territory.
Putin also called the suggestion that Russia was planning to invade Ukraine was “provocative.” On Monday, CIA Director William Burns said US intelligence agencies have not concluded that Putin is planning an invasion, contradicting recent US media reports.
I’m relieved to hear that Putin is being heard. William Burns may not be a good guy but he does seem intelligent, unlike some others such as Sen Roger Wicker who is clearly nuts.
Agree with you 100%. Here is Wicker pushing for us to all die on Fox:

One crazy MF.
How is the pipeline any business of the United States? Are they trying to freeze Western Europe for the winter?
NATO nations, like Germany according to Sen Ernst, Iowa, appear to be lapdogs of the Pentagon/State Department, and not independent nations looking out for THEIR interests, but the interests of warmongers in the Senate.
“I do think that President Biden needs to be very clear, and very strong and his message to Vladimir Putin,” Ernst added, saying she believes President Biden should tell Putin that he will not permit the Nord Stream 2 pipeline to be completed.”
Don’t be in hurry to feel relieved.May be sleeping Joe might have made a slip of tongue without getting clearing from Zionists. Wait and watch
Bring the troops home. No more wars for the Neocons.
….or the liberal interventionists.
Zionist will have the last word. Not Americans. Neocons is a deceptive term. It is Zionists all the way Zionists.
During talks with Putin, Biden warned
that if Russia invaded, the US would impose harsh sanctions on Moscow,
send more troops to NATO’s “eastern flank” that borders Russia, and send
more weapons to Ukraine.
“He knows. His immediate response was he understood that,” Biden said.
Biden has misquoted Putin before… Let’s see the actual transcripts.
Biden: “We will impose harsher sanctions if you invade Ukraine!”
Putin: (giggling) “Sure, you will.”
Not far from it.. According to the Russians, he said “Sanctions are nothing new for us.”
“On Monday, CIA Director William Burns said US intelligence agencies have not concluded that Putin is planning an invasion, contradicting recent US media reports.”
Funny (or sad) how I constantly saw headlines about Russia’s intent on invading Ukraine for weeks but I have yet to see a single headline about what Burns said. Except here of course.
Jeez, a glimmer, just a glimmer, of common sense.
Maybe, just maybe, this might weaken “all options on the table” mantra being screeched by the neo cons.
…..and liberal interventionists (the old term).
Russia brought this on themselves. They should have invaded Ukraine in 2014, overthrown the US-installed government, and taken over the country. Instead, they wasted nearly 8 years on useless diplomacy, complaints to the UN, and a lawsuit. Dumb.
They were naive and thought appeasement would work.
Yes. It’s just a lack of common sense
The Minsk agreements are the standard. The Belarus conflict has shifted attention away but the OSCE is the boss supported by France & Germany. Violations of the restrictions of 100mm artillery & larger in the border exclusion zone is of the highest priority.
And today we read that Biden intends to do exactly that – regardless of whether Russia invades. Biden told the EU he’s sending more military assets to eastern Europe, and he told Zelensky he would support Ukraine. He publicly said Ukraine would not join NATO, but didn’t mention NATO in his call to Zelensky.
So once again, Biden says one thing to a foreign leader, then does the exact opposite within 24 hours – just like he did with Xi over Taiwan.
One reason Biden didn’t tell Zelensky about being denied NATO is because Biden knows the goal is to sacrifice Ukraine in a war with Russia. Therefore the issue of Ukraine in NATO will never arise – for ten years – because Ukraine won’t exist as a functioning state once Russia destroys its military and removes control of half the country from the Kiev regime.
Meanwhile we can see that Biden encouraged Zelensky to further provoke Russia because five minutes (figuratively) after his call, Ukraine sent a warship toward the Kerch Straits.
Anyone who believes Biden has backed down from starting a war in Ukraine or is seeking to defuse tensions there is delusional.
