On Tuesday, a Ukrainian drone attack hit a factory in the Russian city of Izhevsk, which is about 740 miles from Ukraine’s border, killing at least three workers and wounding 35.
“As of now, three people died, and 35 were hospitalized, including 10 in severe condition. They are receiving all the necessary medical care,” said Alexander Brechalov, the governor of the Udmurt Region, where Izhevsk is located.
The governor didn’t name the site that was hit, but a Ukrainian source told Reuters that the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) launched the attack and struck the Kupol plant. The official said the factory was involved in the production of drones and air defenses.

The Ukrainian attack comes as Russia has been launching massive drone and missile attacks across Ukraine. It also comes a few weeks after the SBU launched a major drone attack from inside Russia that targeted strategic bombers at Russian airfields, an operation that led to an increase in Russian strikes on Ukraine.
Fighting also continues to rage across the frontlines in Ukraine, and Russia now controls all of the Luhansk Oblast and has started capturing villages in the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, where Russian forces first pushed into in early June.
Efforts to reach a ceasefire and peace deal have stalled as the two sides remain very far apart on their conditions to end the war. POLITICO reported on Tuesday that the US has begun to halt shipments of some munitions to Ukraine, which could make Ukraine more likely to make concessions to Russia, although the extent of the pause is unclear.
