A US official speaking to The Times of Israel has denied a report that Trump administration officials have threatened to “abandon” Israel if it refuses to end its assault on the Gaza Strip.
The official was responding to a report from The Washington Post that cited a person familiar with discussions between the US and Israel. “Trump’s people are letting Israel know, ‘We will abandon you if you do not end this war,’” the source told the Post.
The US official speaking to the Times said there may be disagreements, but “the idea that we would abandon Israel is preposterous.”
Also on Monday, Axios reported that Vice President JD Vance cancelled a planned trip to Israel because he didn’t want to suggest the Trump administration endorsed the Israeli decision to launch a massive escalation in Gaza, which led to the slaughter of hundreds of Palestinians in recent days.. Vance denied the report, insisting his trip was cancelled for “logistical reasons.”
The US has recently taken steps in the Middle East that Israel was likely unhappy about, including the ceasefire with Yemen’s Houthis, the deal with Hamas to free US-Israeli citizen Edan Alexander, and negotiations with Iran.
There have also been a series of media reports about friction between President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but there’s no indication that the US administration is willing to leverage military aid to Israel to force Netanyahu to agree to a permanent ceasefire deal in Gaza.
A Hamas official said on Monday that there has been no progress in negotiations in Doha since Israel is only offering a temporary truce and won’t commit to ending its genocidal war. Hamas’s position has been that it’s willing to release all remaining Israeli captives at once in exchange for a permanent ceasefire.
Frictions exist but not total abandonment…!

Trump is the perfect example of a ghoul.
"US Official" is code for Ghoul, one who earns their living through causing death.
ghoul | ɡo͞ol |
noun
an evil spirit or phantom, especially one supposed to rob graves and feed on dead bodies.
Because genocide is empire’s plan.

There is no day light between Israel and the US as they say because of the arms, financial and diplomatic support continue. However, it is precisely due to regular Americans and people all over the world who have been speaking out against the slaughter that you see reverberations within the US policy establishment. I have a question. If Americans were silent over the genocide, would the US blink an eye over anything Israel has done in the last 19 months?
In my view it doesn't make much difference. (Specific to the U.S.) Maybe Trump has sensed something inconsistent in himself lately and is into a pretense of some sort. The protests over Vietnam were much louder and included a music revolution and that war dragged on and on into worse atrocities. I'm doubting public input makes much difference at all at this time.
Please don't say that. These things transpire incrementally and in stages. There is no precedent for the "televised" genocide on everyone's phones. It is having an effect everywhere in the world. Israel can win every battle but it has already lost the war. Minds are being opened every single second of every day. Two forces obviously kicked the US out of Vietnam –the resistance of the Vietnamese and the pressure at home. The Palestinians are doing there part its time for Americans to up their game and do our part.
I understand your view and agree absolutely on the need to speak out. But as to effect of the public on US politics at this time we are looking at a year and a half of unspeakable atrocity justified as "terrorism" etc. and a Congress entirely ineffectual to deal with it. The president himself is a mysterious screwball.
Do you know what else is also taking shape? Americans are beginning to associate the twisted relationship between the US and genocidal Israel with problems at home. What's the biggest threat to free speech in the "Mother of free Speech" countries? Criticizing Israel. What's the biggest threat to US security? Foreign intervention and wars that Israel instigates. What's the biggest threat to our freedoms here at home? The police state that Zionists invest in, perpetuate and manipulate. What's the biggest obstacle to allocating funds for the benefit of Americans in terms of health care, social security, infrastructure etc. in a responsible way? Zionist, corporate and oligarch thugs. Recall that one idiot who happened to be Jewish and said we are the masters of the universe who own meta, AI, etc. and need to use that power to change the narrative.
Most of us here speak out.
But there are people intentionally avoiding protest of any kind, even on the internet, because of cowardice, and brainwashing that “it is complicated”, while it is as plain as the nose on their faces.
Then add to that the criminalization of speech.
The European leaders (albeit disingenuously) spoke out (a day late and trillions short) about what Israel is doing.
There are much more robust levels of protest and activism there. Groups shutting down shipment of arms. Labor divesting from Israel.
Actual politicians saying something.
Not so here. Maybe one or two like Tlaib or Massey. But the two cult adherent groups remain silent because it makes their leadership look bad. That is how awful our population is and how ideology replaced religion.
On another site I wrote about Gaza, and the response was that I was a Trump supporting antiAmerican communist. This stupidity of Americans is astounding. This moron’s comment was upvoted.
They don’t know what words mean.
I get this all the time from both sides: "Get back to your MAGA cult", or "deranged TDS Leftist"
Speaking out on line about Israel and the genocide on Gaza is not that easy, since most places delete or shadow ban those comments, after which some people give up.
Part of the problem is the complexity and of making a coherent effective statement. We see a lot of remarkable commentary here to appreciate at antiwar.com. I was referring to the public generally.
Trump plays both sides to collect brownie points for himself. He really does not care much for either side as long as it benefits him.
But he also knows that he cannot overstep the line and totally abandon Israel and side with Palestinians – that would be his death sentence.
So he plays the showman and puts on an act, depending which side he has to please at the moment. But the warning from Schumer still holds.
