Israeli Attacks Kill 38 Palestinians in Gaza Over 24 Hours

Israeli strikes included the bombing of a school-turned-shelter, which killed 13, and the bombing of a children's hospital

Gaza’s Health Ministry said on Wednesday that Israeli attacks killed at least 38 Palestinians and wounded 105 over the previous 24-hour period as US-backed Israeli strikes pound targets across the Strip.

The Health Ministry said that one body was recovered from the rubble over the same period. The ministry’s numbers are based on dead and wounded Palestinians brought to hospitals.

“There are still a number of victims under the rubble and on the streets, and ambulance and civil defense crews cannot reach them,” the ministry wrote on Telegram.

Israeli attacks included the bombing of a school-turned-shelter for displaced Palestinians in Gaza City. According to Al Jazeera, at least 13 Palestinians were killed by the attack, and rescue workers said six others were missing under the rubble.

“We were sleeping and suddenly something exploded, we started looking and found the whole school on fire, the tents here and there were on fire, everything was on fire,” Um Mohammed al-Hwaiti, a survivor of the attack, told Reuters.

“People were shouting and men were carrying people, charred (people), charred children, and were walking and saying: ‘Dear God, dear God, we have no one but you.’ What can we say? Dear God, only,” she added.

The Israeli military claimed Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad were operating at the school but offered no evidence for the claim.

The Israeli military also bombed the Durra Children’s Hospital in Gaza City. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, a missile struck the upper floor of the hospital, damaging an ICU and solar panels. No casualties were reported in the attack. “The bombing caused significant damage to the intensive care unit and the alternative energy system inside the hospital,” the Health Ministry said.

The ministry said that since Israel restarted its genocidal war on March 18, 1,928 Palestinians have been killed, and 5,055 have been injured. Since March 2, Israel has maintained a total blockade on Gaza, cutting off much-needed humanitarian aid, and the ministry warned on Wednesday that children are starving.
