President Trump on Sunday threatened to bomb Iran if a deal isn’t reached on the country’s civilian nuclear program.
“If they don’t make a deal, there will be bombing. It will be bombing the likes of which they have never seen before,” Trump told NBC News in a phone interview.
The president has made similar threats toward Iran, but Sunday’s marked the most explicit one yet, and it comes as the US is sending more bombers to the region and pounding Yemen with daily airstrikes. Trump also said the US could hit Iran with “secondary tariffs” if a deal isn’t reached.
Trump’s threat comes after US intelligence agencies said in their annual threat assessment that there’s no evidence Iran is trying to build a nuclear weapon or that Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has reversed his 2003 fatwah that banned the production of weapons of mass destruction.
Iran recently responded to a letter Trump sent to Khamenei proposing nuclear talks and giving Tehran a two-month deadline to reach a deal. A US official told Axios that the deployment of US B-2 bombers to Diego Garcia was “not disconnected” from that deadline.
Iranian officials have repeatedly rejected the idea of direct talks with the US in the face of Trump’s so-called “maximum pressure campaign” but have left the door open to indirect negotiations.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Sunday that Iran’s response to Trump’s letter made indirect talks possible but that the US’s behavior would determine how things would move forward.
“While Iran’s response rules out the possibility of direct talks between the two sides, it states that the path for indirect negotiations remains open,” Pezeshkian said. Iranian officials have been noting the fact that Trump was the one who tore up the 2015 nuclear deal by reimposing sanctions on Iran.
“As we have stated before, Iran has never closed the channels of indirect communication. In its response, Iran reaffirmed that it has never shied away from engaging in negotiations, but rather, it has just been the United States’ repeated violations of agreements and commitments that have created problems on this path,” Pezeshkian said.
“It’s the behavior of the Americans that will determine whether the negotiations can move forward,” the Iranian leader added. In his interview with NBC, Trump said that US and Iranian officials were talking but didn’t elaborate further.
Reviewing the JFK files and history, was he our last real president?
I never got to know.
So it would appear.
All media likes to focus on is his extramarital life, not his actions and promise as President.
Since the presidency of Lyndon Johnson, we have had liars and plain sh*t heads for POTUS, much to our demise and cost.
Respectfully disagree. Johnson got hooked into Vietnam by Kennedy's cabinet. Johnson was out of his depth re international affairs, but he gave us voting rights, Medicare, and social reforms. Nixon indulged himself in a foolish political trick, but his understanding of the world outside was robust, as the opening to China showed. Carter was another domestic president who floundered when it came to foreign affairs, but was a decent president otherwise, Reagan turned out to be much more than his detractors allotted to him, as shown by the entire array of foreign policy interactions between his administration and the Soviet Union. Bush senior closed out the cold war without a breakdown of the state of affairs in Europe and Russia. Then came Clinton, Bush, Obama, Trump, Biden, and again Trump, all of whom stirred the pot and ruined any chances of a post cold war return to peaceful coexistence in Europe and the far east through their clumsy attempts to force the world under Uncle Sam's foot.
I don't know if Trump can change this grotesque trajectory we're on, but personally? I doubt it. We're living through the worst constellation of ineptness and cluelessness embodied by our political "leadership" I've seen in my lifetime. We're being governed by a clot of ethical and moral midgets.
Seems he forgot what happened on the last effort.
Iran proved that the "Iron Dome" had little effect against the hypersonic, directable, missiles Iran fired off in response to Israel's embassy attack.
Those missiles failed to hit anything of value. So unless Iran was firing at dirt those missiles failed to hit their targets.
You are so naive; because Israel did not admit any damage on the military targets it does not mean Israel did not suffer severe direct hits.
Iran said afterwards their True Promise operations that if Israel had the courage to back up their false claims they should publish images of the targets Iran claimed were hit – which the israelis did not.
You are the naive one. Had Iran hit significant targets Iran would have posted before and after satellite images. Yes some missiles did hit the Nevatim Airbase but the CEP was not so good and vital components of the attacked airbase, like the control center or park bombers were missed. One hanger was hit and one taxi way was hit. The air based operated normally after the attack. This information was from Plant Labs real time satellite images.
Iran can not prove they were successful. Israel did not have prove they failed because independent verification did that for them.
Israel did admit there was real estate damage of about 40 million US dollars, mainly to missiles or parts of missiles falling on residential buildings. It has been estimated that Iran spent about 500 million US dollars to lunch their attack.
Iran gave ample notice before launching. Nothing to judge their capabilities on.
Exact, without revealing the intended targets to hit.
Iran indisputably surprised the whole world by launching an attack on this scale.
And they have even warned True Promise III will come inflicting more pain deeper into sensitive locations. Very few analysts and commentators saw this to unfold.
You can view True Promise I and II as precursors and sensors expanding their capacity and level of precision.
No Iran gave no notice before they launched. That is just silly. US and Israel intelligent agencies detected the preparations for the attacked and figure out the timing. And the buildings at the airbases, can not be moved before the attack. The missiles missed.
Iran says it gave warning before attacking Israel. US says that's not true
WASHINGTON/BAGHDAD/DUBAI, April 14 (Reuters) – Turkish, Jordanian and Iraqi officials said on Sunday that Iran gave wide notice days before its drone and missile attack on Israel, but U.S. officials said Tehran did not warn Washington and that it was aiming to cause significant damage.
https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/iranian-notice-attack-may-have-dampened-escalation-risks-2024-04-14/
If Turkey, Jordan and Iraq were given a warning, the US knew about it. You're the naive one if you think differently. Iran knew damn well the word would get to the US. Anyone with half a brain would have realized that.
Sorry to say, but I simply cannot take your hasbara spin and troll seriously!
All your talk about third parties publishing satellite photos is disproportionate and invalid….no matter how much you try to attribute authenticity and reliability to it.
You are and remain a hasbara troll!
By the way, this is not the first time in history that someone tries to manipulate facts and underplay an opponent's success on the battlefield – simply out of fear of recognizing an opponent's potent capacity and ability to hit them where it inflicts serious pain and on the other hand to avoid they themselves would appear vulnerable and not invincible.
This is all part of psychological warfare.
"Sorry to say, but I simply cannot take your hasbara spin and troll seriously" Yes, it is hard to handle facts when one has believes in fairy tales, like Iran told Israel when they were going to attack. The simple truth is Iran showed no evidence of a successful attack. Deal with that fact.
Iran didn't have to tell Israel directly you fool.
"Sorry to say, but I simply cannot take your hasbara spin and troll seriously."
That's okay. None of the rest if us do. Timbit's more of a barometer or weather-vane indicating how hard the Apartheid State of Israel apologist corps are sucking or blowing each day.
Wikipedia isn’t a good source to look up to.
OK. What does have to do with reports from the BBC, NPR, CNN any many others?
I understand now. Your sources are from a dying world.
It can be a good starting point but yes, one is wise to follow leads elsewhere based on the nature and magnitude of the claim in question.
Also, the Iron Dome wasn't designed for ballistic missiles, so just a ballistic missile is enough.
Bomb bomb bomb Iran! Don’t bomb Iran! Please take my hand! Don’t bomb Iran!… Reelin Ana rocking don’t bomb Iran!!!
As the Klingons would say, perhaps it is a good day to die.
well, any day is a good day to die for a true warrior … but only when fighting other warriors, not women and children as in the western way of war.
Indeed. There was even a TNG episode where two belligerent Klingons aboard the Enterprise inadvertently came to hold a Human child but immediately handed her over to Security. As Klingons do not take hostages, especially not children.
Ferengi Rule of Acquisition #34 – "War is good for business."
but…
Ferengi Rule of Acquisition #76 – "Every once in a while, declare peace. It confuses the hell out of your enemies."
Iran is fully aware with the Rules of Acquisition. 🙂
Funny because many a ST fan posits that the Ferengi are a sci-fi analog of the Je-…erm, nevermind.
Why do you think, they dislike the Iranians? LOL
Talk about Kabuki!
It was he that voided the "deal" that was working, the JCPOA. Further, Iran is a signatory to the NPT, having signed it in 1968, then ratified it in 1970, has allowed the IAEA to freely examine Iran's nuclear facilities.
Mr. Drumpf is a moronic individual, driven by narcissism.
“If they don’t make a deal, there will be bombing. It will be bombing the likes of which they have never seen before,” Trump told NBC News in a phone interview.
I don't know why, but it's words like these that leave me just a bit skeptical about the military budget being cut by 50% any time soon. And don't you just love the "peace through strength" rhetoric"?
I don't even know what to say any more … what the hell is wrong with this country?
It's changing…! Hopefully for good…!
"for good" might mean "permanently" – and not in a Good way.
No "might" about it.
Pretty much everything, as far as I can see.
And he ALWAYS says "…like has never been seen before." Doesn't anyone think the constant repetition of that phrase is odd, like a sign of dementia?
"Tremendous! Trump's dementia is absolutely tremendous. Donald is demented like the world has never seen before.
Biden, the gift that keeps on giving. Thank the democrats for giving Joe his lifetime achievement award.
Israel is pushing for America to bomb Iran. Trump believes he can bully Iran into negotiating a nuclear treaty. Iran doesn't want to go to war. However, the problem that people aren't picking up on is 1.) The situation in the ME is very tense 2.) an unfortunate series of events could easily lead to all out war. For example, does anyone put it past Israel to bomb a US asset, pin it on one of the axis of resistance and frame Iran?
Your last sentence is flat out stupid. There is no way Israel would take such a crazy gamble with their relationship with the USA.
Stupid is thinking history started on October 7th. Stupid is thinking that one people are so superior over others that they can live indefinitely at the expense of the indigenous majority. Stupid is exposing its genocidal intent in response to Oct. 7th and failing miserably to accomplish its goals. Stupid is making it an existential war. If it's existential to Israel, it can resort to desperate measures including baiting the US into a war with Iran. The only thing stupid is making excuses for an ethno-religious, racist state.
You basically just called all of Timbit's talking-points and personal beliefs "stupid". Look at you extending your Remarkable Accuracy streak to 1,103 days & counting !
Some people never learn
Making a comment that Israel would risk their relationship with USA by attacking a US base and blaming it on Iran, is super stupid.
It isn’t stupid if you know a little history.. Remember U.S.S. Liberty.
Lavon affair …“Operation Susannah”
Which Israel has admitted to; whereas for USS Liberty they are still in denial.
We don’t care what they deny. The survivors testimony was enough.
Oh ! I was gonna allude to 9/11 but there's far better documentation on the Liberty Incident. Great call !
Anyone who thinks the Israel high command ordered the attack on the Liberty to draw the USA into a war, that Israel was winning from day 1, is also stupid. No one can come with a serious reason to do that. All evidences clearly shows is was a friendly fire incident. Communications and identifications mistakes on both sides mainly by Israel. The Liberty crew did not help matters when they fired machine gun burst at Israel boats. Read the now declassified Naval board inquiry report.
I can only show the door. You are the one who has to walk thru it.
Related: A lot of MSM Trump “pissed off” and “very angry” with Putin apparently because Putin suggested a UN supervised election for Ukraine to get rid of Zelensky, which Trump is taking exception to, contradicting himself earlier when he was annoyed with Zelensky.
So Trump lets off with a temper tantrum for obscure reasons other than Putin has not leaped to oblige him on a 30 day ceasefire. Again we're seeing the limitations of Trump's “thinking.” But it was predictable. The complexity is too much for him and the hole he's digging gets deeper.
Trump foolishly thinks that Putin is his buddy.
Trump thinks Putin was his golf caddy to fetch the 9 Iron. Putin doesn’t fetch for anyone. Western mentality is way outdated.
If Don Genocide IS good at anything, it's mis-reading other world leaders.
Totally agree.
Trump does not seem to understand that bombing of Iran will lead to war with Iran. To defeat Iran with the same easy that USA beat Iraq in 1991 requires the support of Europe and the Saudis. He is not going to get that from Europe and unlikely from the Saudis. And given the DOD is run by a weekend news anchor who post war plans on an Iphone, I don't see the USA being successful.
There is NO WAY to defeat Iran with the ease the US defeated Iraq in 1991 no matter who's help you employ.
Iran would be crushed if the USA has same support and leaderships that they had in 1991.
Now, go back and read what you said originally and notice the word easy. Iran might be crushed but there won't be nothing easy about it and the entire region will be up in flames. Including Israel. And you can exhume both Bush 1, Schwarzkopf and get the same support from all our lackeys and the results would still be the same.
The peak of U.S. greatness was 1991. It’s been downhill ever since. All empires have fallen. No exceptions.
“If they don’t make a deal, there will be bombing. It will be bombing the likes of which they have never seen before,” Trump told NBC News in a phone interview.
Trump made the same overblown threat to Yemen. Turned out, mostly civilians were killed and they can attack Israel just like before. My guess is that US troops and aircraft carriers will suffer the most if he attacks Iran.
Iran has proven to have missiles with pinpoint accuracy.
Those "pinpoint accurate" Iran missiles were not display with their two missiles/drone attacks on Israel.
All the damage photos were embargoed…In fact, people who tried to take photos were stopped.
If indeed Iran has useless weapons, why attack them?
If you’ve followed Israel at all, you’d realize that nothing can be “embargoed” when it comes to the death of Israeli soldiers. Families would speak out and demonstrate in public. There is no way for the government to cover this up. So my conclusion is that there were no military casualties resulting from the Iranian strikes. One Bedouin girl was injured and one Palestinian was killed in the West Bank.
I followed the story, but not necessarily limited to the Israeli spin. It is clear that Iran intentionally (and pretty accurately) hit the tarmac of on an airport…. I am sure that if they wanted to target downtown TelAviv there would have been more civilian deaths. The Bedouin girl was hit by falling debris and not from a direct hit.
Your guess is wrong. It is not a question of who will suffer the most, the question will the bombing work.
Will the bombing work? Yes, if you want to start a world war. That seems to be what Netanyahu and Trump want.
And in my opinion, given how the USA is currently run, the USA can not win that war.
US bases in the region will be Iran's first targets.
I'm sure the bases will be attacked first. That is why any war with Iran would required massive first strike fire power. With out support of our former allies, now trade war enemies, I don't see how that is possible.
It would be an other cakewalk. Just the same as in Ukraine.
yellowcake.
When the first Americans are killed and shipped home under extreme ceremony to anger the American public, then Trump will have Americans' blood on his hands and Israel would have accomplished what it wanted all the time- Americans, paying, fighting and dying for their wars! And the people with the human decency to see and call it for what it is – GENOCIDE- risk being deported or prosecuted for a simple act of conscience!
Iran has been preparing for an invasion for a long time.
It will be no walk in the park.
Peace.
Weird how the US hasn't bombed Pakistan or North Korea anytime recently. I wonder why?
Regardless what you say about Kim, he read the West right.
Didn't Russia just make a treaty with Iran? Don't they have S – 400s? How can this turn out well? What happens if a hypersonic missile hits a US ship?
Trump will fire nukes. Believe me he would do it. He has to win under all cost. The man has gone off the hinges and it is dangerous. What's most frightening though is that he still has a 50% approval ratings because he gave the people some stuff the Democrats went crazy with. Unfortunately, the way the Dems were going was not sustainable either.
And then what does the world do if Trump orders a nuclear strike on the Islamic Republic of Iran that does not possess nuclear weapons, does not threaten the USA, and on top of that is a country where 30% of its population are children under 15 and seniors over 65 ?
Not that the last point would matter to American State (im)morality, but dead children are never okay for everyone else.
"And then what does the world do" Most likely nothing. What can they do? Restrict trade? Trump would like that.
But it would not only be restricting trade with the USA (on such items as raw materials to America and finished products from it) BUT also establishing new, safer trade partnerships with better and more stable state actors.
At present the USA is Canada’s #1 trade partner, but we are looking to diversify. There is talk of EU membership (which I oppose; we are not in Europe) but I would support close EU affiliation. And increases trade with Asia and especially Mexico, literally avoiding the middle-man.
Russia treaty with Iran means nothing. No Iran does not have s-400 missiles. And even if they did, they would be destroyed on day 1. A proper led attack by the USA, which I don't this administration is capable of, would down those missiles down early in the attack.
The Chinese-Russian-Iranian militaries conducted joint maneuvers recently. If China or Russia choose to assist in some way before the deadline, it’ll be a humiliation for Trump. It’ll be a “check” on the board.
“If they don’t make a deal, there will be bombing."
Just wondering … did the journalist ask based on what public or Congressional mandate does Mr. President think he has the right to go to war?
Had to laugh at that. If there are "journalists" present, they get ignored.
(clears throat)
"Executive Order"
Y'know, Trump's method of democratic governance.
Hold your horses…! One country at a time…! Houthis are waiting…!

I think Iran has the defenses required to make the aggressive bully into a sniveling punk,
I am hopeful they will be QUITE op-er-ational when Trump's B-2 friends arrive …
Israel didn't get very close to Iran with its attack jets. Some say Iran has the strongest coastal defenses on Earth.

As I recall, ASI designs on bunker-busting IRI nuclear sites back 10-15 years ago was hampered by physics…the IDF warplanes could carry the fuel to get to target and back OR the weapons to bunker-bust, but not both.
As I recall, they’d have needed US refueling en route but Obama wouldn’t go for it.
Why would the Israelis need Obama to “go for” the refueling capability that Israel already had?
It was my understanding at the time that either a) Israel did NOT have refuelling capabilities and/or b) they needed American tankers with American air support in American-secured airspace en route.
My impression comes entirely from analyses hosted on this very site at the time in question – when ongoing discussion revolved around the IDF’s “windows of opportunity” to launch an attack and the ongoing Iran Nuclear Deal and centrifuge issues.
The Israelis have had aerial refueling capabilities for more than 40 years. The relevant question would be whether they could station their tankers far enough out to support such an operation without the regimes ruling the territory between theirs and Iran’s chosing to intervene and successfully intervening (e.g. shooting down the tankers or the planes trying to refuel from them). The US regime could certainly either pressure those regimes to stand down, or supply the tankers itself and dare those regimes to intervene.
Isael was refueled by the US for its last attack on Iran. Advanced Iranian air defenses locked onto the attackers. The Israelis fired from a distance and fled.
Good to know, thanks !
Trump has no sense of logic!…. Arrogance and hubris we can live without! Neocon central?!….!!!
We are living in the time of prophecy, trying to manifest!….!…..!….. …..
“The answer my friend is blowing in the wind!… The answer is blowing in the wind!….”… …. …..
"Und willst du nicht mein Bruder sein,
So schlag ich dir den Schaedel ein".
Of course that statement was first made in 1903 by a German. Chancellor von Buelow during a political speech in the Reichstag.
It is also consistent with Jesus, who is reported to have said "He who is not for us is against us" which eventually resulted in the Inquisition
I doubt that the real Jesus said that. It was the church fathers who put all kinds of words into Jesus's mouth and misinterpreted a lot of other things he said.
But the Old Testament in the bible is full of killings, slaughters, rapes, adultery adn so on. Plus and eye for an eye.
Trump sounds like the god of the Old Testament.
"It was the church fathers who put all kinds of words into Jesus's mouth…."
It was the Church (and motivated post-contemporaries like Paul) who decided EVERYTHING the character Jesus said. There are no verifiable writings from a historical Jesus, nor confirmed quotes of anything he said. Modern religious scholars are divided on whether a historical Yeshuah bin Yosef actually even existed.
Where is Trump's "military courage" when it comes to stopping Israel's rampages? The further we move along the clearer it gets that October 7 was NOT the crime, but the "triggering" event that led to the real crime- Israeli genocide! The REAL crime was letting O7 happen then lying about it as a "security failure"! And may all the media talking heads who give Israel's "side of the story" 100% attention go straight to XXXX!
Actually there are rumors that Israel not only knew about Oct 7th but had something to do with it in order to attack Gaza and clean them out. They way they have ben operating I tend to believe this being the case.
Dumb rumors. Ranks right up there with FDR "knew Japan was going to bomb Pearl". Certain people will believe anything.
Letting it happen is all Israel had to do. And that is what they did. Adding that Israel "had something to do with it" just makes it easier for people to ignore all the other glaring facts that made it obvious that Israel flat ass let it happen.
War is not the way to Peace…. The Holy season is upon us and we should remember the sanctity of all faiths.
Peace be upon the Peace Makers!….
The "Holy season" appears to be April Fool's Day – which seemed to have been moved back to November's US Election Day.
Trump the "Peace President" is becoming the most dangerous president of our times. He told the gullible masses that he was for peace but hired nothing but neocon war mongers, or Christian Nationalist war mongers into his cabinet. They drool like Bibi when they kill civilians and girl friends.
Even all the stupid s**t George W did as President barely stacks against Don Genocide's first few months ! Good Hells and Lard Tunderin' Jaysus, does Trump really think that bully tactics have a place in this year, decade, century, or millennium ?? This is the kind of s**t the Right accuses the Russian Federation and DPRC of doing, yet a majority of the Right cheers this guy on ? WITAS ????
Yes, I'm sure the bombing by Gabbard's "President of Peace" will be tremendous. This is the sort of language that is used by six year olds. Mentally stunted six-year olds that is, because most normally developing six year olds have either largely outgrown the childish habit of talking in superlatives or never suffered from it.
Donald Trump is mentally unstable and extreme. His style of personalized government through bullying tactics is very dangerous. He has a strong bent towards imperialism and militarism. If he is not refrained by Congress, who knows where could this end.
Why is the US always on the wrong side? WWI, WWII, and now WWIII. I guess I'm not allowed to tell you. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/476206cc784f9764807a2af09a415be70c2ecb19ea29dc574bb58148b1279aef.jpg
