President Trump on Wednesday confirmed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will be visiting the US on Friday to sign a deal on Ukraine’s rare earth minerals and other natural resources.
The deal will establish a fund where Ukraine will put 50% of its proceeds from rare earth minerals and other resources, including natural gas and oil, that will be used for investment projects in Ukraine. Exactly how much of the fund will be owned by the US is unclear and is expected to be worked out in follow-on agreements.
According to a draft of the agreement obtained by CNN, the deal says that the US “supports Ukraine’s efforts to obtain security guarantees needed to establish lasting peace,” but it does not explicitly provide any security guarantees.

Zelensky acknowledged that the deal doesn’t give “concrete security guarantees” and said it was a “framework” for the future of the relationship between the US and Ukraine, which he plans to discuss with Trump on Friday.
Trump told reporters during his first cabinet meeting that the deal had “automatic security” for Ukraine because “nobody’s going to be messing around with our people when we’re there, and so we’ll be there in that way.”
A day earlier, Trump said that the deal will give Ukraine the “right to fight on” and that the US may continue supplying weapons for the proxy war until a peace deal is reached with Russia.
When asked how long the US will be sending military equipment to Ukraine, Trump said, “Well, it could go forward for a while, maybe until we have a deal with Russia. Look, we need to have a deal with Russia. Otherwise, it’s going to continue. But now when Americans put up their money … we’re getting our money back in some form. But it could go on for a while, or it could be settled quickly.”
The president also bragged about the fact that he was the first to send Javelin anti-tank missiles to Ukraine during his first term, which marked a major escalation of the US involvement in the conflict at the time. “In fact, I was the one that gave them the Javelins. You remember the famous Javelins? That was me, that wasn’t Obama, it wasn’t Biden, it wasn’t anybody else, it was me,” he said.
Will he be wearing his combat costume, or is there a clothing change offstage for a mineral deal in store for our plucky thespian?
He would be wearing his mining gear…!
I hope it’s this hardhat

He could bring back steampunk.
Zelensky is completely untrustworthy.
Trump is posturing, like all negotiators do. That is why he mentions the Javelins and military equipment shipments. Trump is trying to show he was interested in Ukraine protecting itself. No, Trump has nothing to do with starting the war, but Dave would slant it that way if he could.
The major escalation by the US in Ukraine was the Obama-Biden 2014 coup, nothing else. It was an illegal overthrow managed by Nuland and other of those people. Then, we had Crook Biden refuse any negotiations. Dave missed that too. I would not be surprised if Dave has never mentioned that.
“I would not be surprised if Dave has never mentioned that.”
Took about five seconds to actually look. One of many:
“The Biden administration has shown no sign of seeking diplomacy with Russia to end the conflict despite the president’s recent warning that the world is facing the highest risk of nuclear ‘armageddon’ than at any time since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.” Dave DeCamp, 10/25/22
But for some reason you have it in your pea brain that anyone who notices Trump is just another lying politician somehow missed that same fact about Biden.
Antiwar policy: "We welcome thoughtful and respectful comments."
Thomas Knapp, moderator charged with enforcing said policy, addresses a contributor with whom he disagrees as a "pea brain". That is a respectful comment?
You’re not a commenter with whom I disagree.
You’re someone who either has major reading comprehension problems or is lying about something I said to pretend it meant something else. so as to manufacture a non-existent DISagreement.
It's an extremely accurate comment.
Objection overruled.
Does the rare earths contract between the USA and Ukraine also include rare earths from the Russian-occupied Donbas region?
Historically, the rare earth deal reminds me of the Hitler-Stalin Pact (The Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact) and the invasion of Poland by German and Russian troops in the Second World War in 1939.

Republican? Or…? Authoritarian?!…?….?….?!
UNCLEAR…! Another waste of US taxpayer money to explore the Ukraine rare earth minerals that do not exist in worthwhile quantities…!
Nonsense…!
BlackRock already owns Ukraine.
American boys shouldn't have to fight to save Blackrock's property deals.
“In fact, I was the one that gave them the Javelins. You remember the famous Javelins? That was me, that wasn’t Obama, it wasn’t Biden, it wasn’t anybody else, it was me,” he said.
Here's Trump once more bragging about something his cult members swore that he only provided those Javelins because he wanted to avoid being impeached.
Only freebies.
Ukrainian president says Kyiv is ‘grateful’ for aid but will not accept aid that must be repaid
by Alperen Aktas |26.02.2025 – Update : 27.02.2025."
Zelensky's circus is coming to Washhington just to be shown the door.
The American government now in power will try to recoup some of the $ Billions transferred to the criminal regime in Ukraine!
"The US will “get back” the money it has spent on military and financial assistance to Kiev through an upcoming mineral deal with Ukraine, President Donald Trump said on Wednesday ahead of his first cabinet meeting. Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky will travel to Washington on Friday to sign the agreement, Trump added."
"Trump had initially demanded the equivalent of up to $500 billion worth of natural resources as compensation for the aid provided to Kiev. Washington proposed a deal that would grant the US sweeping rights to Ukraine’s reserves of natural resources as a form of compensation."
The autocratic President Trump is booting out the European states in the competition for mineral resources for the future of the innovative, renewable energy industry and the reconstruction of Ukraine and, in cooperation with the autocratic President Putin, is probably creating a divided Ukraine in bilateral peace negotiations like a divided Korea, Vietnam, or Germany after the Second World War in favor of the resource-rich, nuclear power Russia.

How will this deal be reconciled with the 100 year deal entered into with the UK? More smoke and mirrors?
"Luca Brasi held a gun to Zelenskiyy's head, and Trump assured him that either his brains or his signature would be on the minerals contract."
Dawning clear light,
This pivot, while pure Trump, only proves that the man is incapable of any form of rational prioritization.
His most recent gauche outbursts which emphasize real estate and money over the deaths and grotesque sacrifices made by human beings both in Russia and Ukraine in a war we authored, along with the continuing unforgivable slaughter of innocent human beings in the ME which we continue to countenance, have finished off any remaining respect I might have had for the people who rule this nation.
It will not surprise me at all if the entire enterprise of restoring peaceful relations with the Russians collapses completely.
As another Commenter has noted & alludes to, Trump is all about giving himself a Win, regardless of cost or consequence. Any end to the Ukraine-Russia War is a Win if Trump (loosely) presides over it.
And any "restor(ation) of peaceful relations with the Russians" only has to last long enough for Trump to claim personal victory on unTruthSocial, the Twitter, FAUXNews. If / when it falls apart for any reason, Trump has enough domestic enemies to pin the blame on for that and will keep the Win.
