President Trump said in an interview that aired on Monday night that Ukraine “may be Russian some day” when pushing his idea for a rare earth mineral deal in exchange for US support.
“[Ukraine] has tremendously valuable land in terms of rare earth, in terms of oil and gas, in terms of other things. I want to have our money secured because we’re spending hundreds of billions of dollars and, you know, they may make a deal, they may not make a deal, they may be Russian some day, or they may not be Russian some day,” Trump said.
The president said that he told the Ukrainians that he wants the equivalent of about $500 billion in rare earth minerals. Trump insisted Ukraine had “essentially agreed” to the idea. “I said to them, we have to get something, we can’t continue to pay this money,” Trump said.
Ukrainian President Volodomy Zelensky has said he’s open to Trump’s idea. “If we are talking about a deal, then let’s do a deal, we are only for it,” he said last week.
Trump administration officials have backed Trump’s calls for a deal that will secure the US access to Ukraine’s natural resources. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz said the US needs to “recoup” the cost of the proxy war. “That will be a partnership with the Ukrainians in terms of their rare earth, natural resources, oil, and gas,” he said.
While the deal implies the US will continue providing military aid to Ukraine, Trump also insists he thinks a peace deal to end the war can be reached. Trump has said that he has spoken by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin, although the Kremlin said it could not confirm or deny the claim.
This treatment of a truly devastating war, in which thousands upon thousands have died and so much damage to infrastructure done and so many cluster bombs left waiting for innocents to step on them, this war is being treated like a leisurely game of Risk. I move here, take that. You respond. Let's eat lunch. We'll get back to this tomorrow. Oh, ignore those guys being hauled off to the front…they're just pawns. No big loss.
It does make Trump look out of touch how he hasn’t ended the thing already.
Don’t forget the radioactive uranium powder! Wheee. It’s in Iraq and now Ukraine.
I'm confused – are we Zionism's protector or Blackwater's competitor? I guess when a state becomes a commodity it can be both.
He’s making deals.
Most of Ukrainian natural resources are concentrated in East Ukraine. Kiev regime is happy to sell them to American corporations because neither Kiev regime nor American corporations can get access to them. At the moment, it is unclear where the border between Ukraine and Russia will pass (if there will be any border). Besides, as we know, both Zelensky and Ukrainian parliament, according to Ukrainian constitution, should be first reelected before they may have the legal right to sign any agreement. In their current status, any document signed by them is void. So, Trump got in a nasty situation. If he stops supplying Kiev regime with weapons, Kiev regime wouldn't last long. Supplying them with weapons also doesn't help much, it is only waste of money because Kiev regime has no chance to win. Longer the war lasts – weaker is Trump's position both internationally and domestically. He hoped to come to some agreement with Putin but because of lack of information about Ukrainian and Russian realities, his ideas about the peace agreement are incompatible Kremlin's ideas.
"Longer the war lasts – weaker is Trump's position both internationally and domestically."
That's total nonsense. Trump does not own this war, he has nothing to lose if it goes on for another 100 years. In fact the MIC, the deep state, and the neocons would be very supportive. So would traditional Republicans and the mainstream press, both of which are firmly pro-war, to say nothing of pro-war Democrats. As for world opinion, American voters don't give a damn about what the world thinks, nor does Trump.
The truth is that Trump has much more to lose domestically by striking a peace deal in Ukraine – he'll immediately be accused by all the people I listed above as having capitulated to "evil" Putin.
Don't delude yourself with wishful thinking, Russia is not in a good position.
Nonsense is in your head. Trump already lost his chance to get free out from Ukrainian trap. Now whatever he does, it would be bad for him.
If he doesn't care about Ukrainian war, why then he is trying so hard to get in touch with Putin?
What imaginary trap are you blabbing on about??!! Trump has absolutely nothing to lose by sending $100 billion/year to Ukraine for the next 4 years. That's the safest play politically for him. And he can just tell the ultra-right, anti-Ukraine-war wing of his party "We'll recoup our money when we own Ukraine's natural resources." They'll believe it, they believe every nonsense he says.
Just think about it – the MIC, the deep state, traditional Republicans, the mainstream media, Democrats, NATO allies… they would all be more than happy. How is that a trap?
There is nothing I would like more than to see American imperialism crash and burn in Ukraine, but let's stay realistic in our assessment of the situation and not drink too much Russian Kool-aid.
Trump doesn’t want to be accused of negotiating a bad deal, a loser deal. He believes Putin hates seeing all these young men, on both sides, dying.
What is Trumps game plan?! Redundancy is boring!…
To strike a deal. He wants a better deal with Russia than what he can currently get. That’s it.
The pro war people got him to “take Syria’s oil,” and they want him to, “take Ukraine’s rare earths.” But I don’t think he’ll fall for it.

Killer Capitalism!….?….!
Planned obsolescence?!…
Trumps a puts!… ;-}

If Biden had rambled like that….
Biden was a full Sentence liar… Trump is the Paragraph liar with multiple phrases and segments to make his overall lie interprets in small insignificant pieces…!
It’s really not an incoherent ramble as you’re suggesting.
The fuck it isn't.
….And the Trump-ets red glare, the bombs bursting in air…
More and more experts are worried about D. Trump's mental state.
His statements are more and more incoherent and his purges more aggressive. His recent refusal to follow a court order raises important questions.
If this were to intensify, people with responsibilities in Washington DC may have to put partisanship aside and seriously consider the 25th Amendment.
Trump rambling again…!
You beat me by 4 minutes. I'm a slow typer.
This is how he makes deals.
The only difference the outcome of the war will make, from a peasant's perspective, is the language on the road signs.
Ukrainians seem to believe the EU will offer better job opportunities.
Do you want your dick blown off for a job opportunity?
Some are fighting for just that.
Better money means they can afford independence, children, etc.
