Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Monday that the US was not “sincere” about negotiations with Iran, citing new sanctions imposed by the Trump administration.
President Trump has re-imposed his so-called “maximum pressure campaign” on Iran and added new sanctions while claiming that he wasn’t “happy” about doing so and saying he wanted a deal with Tehran.
“If the US were sincere about negotiations, why did they sanction us?” Pezeshkian said in a speech in Tehran at an event commemorating the 46th anniversary of Iran’s Islamic revolution.

The Iranian leader added that Tehran “does not seek war…but will not yield to foreign pressure.” He noted that the US has “a long history of imposing sanctions that restrict Iranians’ access to essential medications, food, and water, all while claiming to seek negotiations.”
Pezeshkian, who assumed office in July 2024, pledged during his campaign that he would seek direct talks with the West in order to get sanctions relief for Iran. After he was sworn in, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei opened the door to the possibility of talks with the US, saying there was “no harm” in engaging with the “enemy.”
But in a sign that Trump’s actions have made diplomacy less likely, Khamenei said on Friday that talks with the US would not be “wise.” He cited the negotiations to reach the 2015 nuclear deal and the fact that the US under the first Trump administration tore up the deal only a few years later.
Trump has said he wants a deal with Iran to prevent it from acquiring a nuclear bomb but also acknowledged that Iranian leadership does not seek nuclear weapons. The CIA also recently confirmed that there’s no evidence Iran has decided to weaponize its civilian nuclear program.
Iran has to know that Israel gets what Israel wants. And it’s never good. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=166ZL4mUVaw
israelification…
It's way past time that ISREAL be the nation that RECEIVES the demands instead of dishing them out! They are and have been the main problem in the Middle East since inception!
Much as I like Dr Sachs, I disagree with him re this. If Israel's actions were not in the interest of the US (and by the US of course I mean the 0.01% who own most of the politicians, not the 99.99% people of the US) they would not be supported.
An interesting thing to watch for going forward: heretofore, Israel has needed a "great local enemy" to justify its militarism and expansionism and Iran has fit the bill since the late 1980's. But with Gaza liquidated (sorry, no other way to say it) and the W Bank soon to follow with no murmur of dissent from the EU or US or indeed China and Russia, and with Hezbollah severely weakened, Assads removed, and the Arabs completely under control, Israel will need to shift to normalization. One of the steps to watch for that would be dropping Nuttyyahoo and "allowing" normalization of some kind with the "outlaw enemy" Iran.
Caliman, I agree. But I am always contemplating chicken/egg with US imperialism ruling v Israeli/Zionist imperialism via US government capture. Israel began as a colonialist project and tool. We seem to be turning over to the Israeli Empire, in some ways, now. The complete obliteration of free speech in this regard, among other things.
Sachs and the team on Judge Nap refuse to truly deviate from the US being “good” , but driven by nefarious outside forces. Netanyahu is a good foil because he is indeed a nasty piece of shit, but he clearly is not alone.
They(all persons judge Nap) may be another form of deep state messengers, or some like Sachs, maybe, biting their tongues to go only so far before they become big targets.
It is also a form of propaganda via omission of all facts and context. But generally, Sachs is not wrong on this issue.
The writing on the Wall with Russia was when TASS announced a new plane route in Russia for tourism in Israel.
How TF are you truly against Zionist actions when you think it’s a good idea to take a vacation in a country committing barbarism worse than the Nazis?
And maybe you are right about Iran since they never truly struck Israel hard after the assassinations.
I am always wary because oligarchs will always “oligarch” to their advantage beyond principles of any sort. And others hunker down until the smoke clears.
This is all just posturing for the inevitable negotiations.
Trump has not fallen for the zionist and neocon plot to get the USA to attack Iran. And, the deep state has not been able yet to kill Trump so that they can blame Iran. Iran is not an aggressive nation. The zionists and neocons want to falsely blame Iran for everything, including the 10/7/23 attack in Israel, in which Israel deliberately stood down despite warnings.
There has been sanctions against Iran a long time. Trump did not invent that. I do not recall any negotiations Biden has had with Iran which have led to anything productive.
Man, you really are the ultimate Trump kiss ass. Trump dropped out of the JCPOA and imposed the maximum pressure campaign but since others also sanctioned Iran, you give Trump a pass. And somehow, you manage to bring up Biden again as if that is all Trump has to do better than regardless of whether Trump's own policies are sound or not.
He didn't use the Crook in front of Biden…!
"I do not recall any negotiations Biden has had with Iran which have led to anything productive."
He wasn't VERY good with that, but there was at least this:

Trump is leaning towards plan B.
And we know what the "B" stands for.
It's the Bullshit Plan…!
I'd prefer Plan 9 from outer space …
The unfortunate fact is that Iran's economy is suffering greatly right now. Inflation is out of control, gas and power are being cut to both industries and residents, and trade with fellow BRICS nations is not making it.
So, Iran is over a barrel. Trump wants a deal. Iran are past masters at negotiation. I think a deal can be had here that will be a "win" for the US president and will also solve Iran's issues.
There won't be a deal while the maximum pressure is on…!
… And they are not…!
The USA and Israel are 'agreement incapable'. They only ever negotiate in bad faith, with no intention of honouring the terms of any 'deal' they might strike. There is no point whatsoever to engaging in negotiations with them on any matter. Trump and Netanyahu demonstrate this regularly.
US dominance and potential hegemonic rhule are being called into question:
