Advisers to President-elect Donald Trump have conceded that a deal to end the war in Ukraine will likely take months or potentially even longer, Reuters reported on Wednesday.
Two unnamed Trump “associates” who spoke with Reuters described Trump’s promise to end the conflict within 24 hours as “campaign bluster” and a lack of understanding about the war.
Keith Kellog, Trump’s incoming envoy to the conflict, has said he hopes to have a deal within the first 100 days of the administration.
Trump’s incoming national security advisor, Rep. Mike Waltz, has said the next administration will ask Ukraine to lower its conscription age from 25 to 18 to “stabilize” the battlefield, a sign that he expects the war to continue.
It’s also unclear what sort of deal the Trump administration might offer Russia that would be acceptable to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has already rejected proposals that have reportedly been discussed by the Trump transition team.
Bloomberg reported Wednesday that Putin is expected to ask Trump for a guarantee that Ukraine won’t ever join NATO, which has been Moscow’s main demand since before the invasion was launched on February 22, 2022. Waltz has said that a Trump-Putin call is expected to happen in the coming days or weeks.
Trump said that he could end the war in 24 hours. I guess Trump now wants to continue the war.
While that promise was unlikely to happen, it wasn’t impossible.
Trump seems to have been pretty active in talking with both sides between the election and now. At least in theory, he could have come up with a deal that Zelenskyy would pretty much have to, and Putin would at least want to, “agree to in principle” immediately upon Trump taking office.
I doubt that happens, though.
This is one case where I think Trump is sincere in wanting to end the war.
Plus they will want to move on to the next war.
Trump's designated imperialist Secretary of State, strict anti-communist Cuban exile Rubio, is pursuing military interests primarily in the Pacific instead of the Atlantic, or both Canada, Greenland, (Nato members) Panama (without a standing army).

"…described Trump’s promise to end the conflict within 24 hours as “campaign bluster” and a lack of understanding about the war."
So, Trump's standard methodology.
For months now, Donald Trump has bragged that he would solve the Ukraine-Russia war on his first day in the White House. So much for bragging now that his advisers say that it could take months to accomplish.
Sure he made fool of himself but maybe, at least, it helped him to win the elections.
Remember, grocery prices were going to come down within days as well, now he says it is complicated. Inflation has gone upward again.
Don't expect millions to be departed on day one either.
Typo, we all make them. deported of course not departed..
Yes, thank you
This is from a FOX interview (before election):
Bartiromo:
"You said you could end the war in Ukraine in 24 hours. How would you do that?
"I know Zelensky very well. I felt he was very honorable because when they asked him about the perfect phone call that I made, he said it was indeed, he said it was. He didn't even know what they were talking about. He could have grandstanded–"Trump said before Bartiromo cut him off. "That's not going to be enough for Putin to stop bombing," she pointed out. Trump then explained how he would get Russia and Ukraine to end their conflict. "I know Zelenskyy very well, and I know Putin very well, even better. And I had a good relationship, very good with both of them. I would tell Zelenskyy, no more. You got to make a deal. I would tell Putin, if you don't make a deal, we're going to give him a lot. We're going to [give Ukraine] more than they ever got if we have to. I will have the deal done in one day. One day," Trump responded.
At least he had a half assed plan. Then he went and hired John Bolton jr.(Waltz).
They are running out of time. Russian advances in the center since August 6th.
LOL
running out of time for what?
Try harder, Putin fluffer
When in doubt, or lacking any intelligent response, trot out the old reliable "Putin fluffer".
Then what is he?
Ruhh!
Muh 5 meters per day!
And that makes him a "Putin fluffer"?
Yes
You proved my point.

Would Greenlanders prefer to become Russian or Canadian? I suspect they'd select Russian, particularly if America's election referendum oversight is banned.
"It's also unclear what sort of deal the Trump administration might offer"
So far he offered only a total mobilization for Ukrainian men.
Of course he can promise anything, but who will trust him? Anyway four years later a new administration can denounce everything what he could offer.
Can NATO stop the advance of Russian army by deploying troops in Ukraine? No, it can't. Some individual NATO countries may try but not the organization. And even then, the best what they can achieve is to slow down the advance of Russian army and delay the unavoidable defeat.
If NATO puts troops in Ukraine, whatever nations do it, will face major destruction of their countries military targets and then all out war and probably nukes,,USA will be a main target. USA will feel what war is really like when it is brought to its homeland. Russia will soon stop playing games and Trump better grow a set and stop letting the NeoCons lead him around like he is a puppy dog.
Indeed – when the final redline is crossed, the Russian Federation needn't bother with Europe initially. Decapitation strike on US command & control plus land/air portions of the nuclear triad, then tell NATO members & American cities they're next if they move to retaliate.
This is a scenario an Antiwar contributor outlined some time back; seems a plausible middle-ground between total immediate war, and very limited nuclear action.
ruhhh
muh red lines
muh scary!
It may happen only if Kremlin decides that the big war is unavoidable. Otherwise it is not only too risky but also, if successful, it'll change drastically the geopolitical balance in favor of China. China is friend of Russia because of American danger. Once the danger is eliminated, Chinese leadership may start to think about their own "full spectrum dominance".
OMG. You idea would result in the total destruction of both countries. It would be nearly impossible for Russia to take out all land and air assets in a preempt strike. And then there is the naval submarines and aircraft carriers to deal with.
LOL
russia is a sad pathetic country
a "gas station with nukes" i believe
is accurate
U are mistaken and uneducated. 🙂
how?
name some exquisite tech that russia has
U.S. leadership has no responsibility for individual NATO countries if any of them decides to escalate the war without consulting the other members. If it happens, Americans would be glad to let them try it while themselves sit and watch from the safety of their continent.
Which circumstances are conducive to peace?
No peace plan without disarmament.

To some people, a month can seem like a year…
I thought it would only take a day as Trump previously stated? or did I just dream that? Wash. is trying to start WWIII and just waiting for Russia to fire the first shot, but this time America's cities will all look like Pacific Palisades if war breaks out. Keep your passport up to date and if you can, buy a condo in So. Argentina or S. Chile, they also come with furniture and cost far less than they do here in the good ol' USA, where everything is a racket.
I hate to say this… As I said earlier…!
