Israeli Attacks Kill 28 More Palestinians in Gaza Over 24 Hours

Gaza's Civil Defense said the Israeli military killed 70 children over the past five days

Gaza’s Health Ministry said Sunday that Israeli attacks killed at least 28 Palestinians and wounded 89 over the previous 24-hour period as the daily US-backed slaughter continues.

The Health Ministry’s numbers only account for dead and wounded Palestinians brought to hospitals. “There are still a number of victims under the rubble and on the streets, and ambulance and civil defense crews cannot reach them,” the ministry wrote on Telegram.

Also on Sunday, Gaza’s Civil Defense Agency said the Israeli military killed at least 70 children over the past five days. UNICEF previously reported that Israel had killed 74 Palestinian children in Gaza in the first week of 2025.

Al Jazeera reported that Israel’s 100-day ethnic cleansing campaign in northern Gaza that began in early October had left about 5,000 Palestinians dead or missing, and another 9,500 had been injured.

The ethnic cleansing campaign has involved a total siege on the northern Gaza cities of Beit Lahia, Beit Hanoun, and Jabalia. Palestinian civilians were ordered to evacuate under the threat of death, either by bombing, shooting, or starvation. The Israeli military recently began escalating attacks on Gaza City, raising fears the ethnic cleansing campaign is moving further south.

Despite the mass destruction in northern Gaza, the Israeli military is still facing resistance. On Saturday, four Israeli soldiers were killed by an explosive device in Beit Hanoun.

On Sunday, Israeli attacks included strikes on northern Gaza, killing several Palestinians in Gaza City. In Jabalia, an Israeli strike on a school-turned-shelter killed at least eight Palestinians, including two women and two children.

Gaza’s Health Ministry said the latest violence had brought its death toll since October to 46,565 and the number of wounded to 109,660.

A new study published in the medical journal The Lancet found that the Health Ministry’s death toll is a significant undercount. The study found that between October 7, 2023, and June 30, 2024, the Health Ministry had undercounted by about 41%, and it said the current death toll from violence alone is likely over 70,000, which doesn’t include indirect deaths caused by the Israeli siege.
