The Republican Party posted its new platform last week that’s expected to be ratified at the Republican National Convention, which will start on Monday as scheduled despite the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
Israel is the only foreign country mentioned by name as one that the GOP vows to support. “We will stand with Israel, and seek peace in the Middle East,” the platform says.
Referring to NATO allies, the platform reads, “Republicans will strengthen Alliances by ensuring that our Allies must meet their obligations to invest in our Common Defense and by restoring Peace to Europe.”
A report from Israel Hayom notes that the same standard of allies investing more money in defense is not applied to Israel. Israel receives $3.8 billion in military aid from the US each year and will get another $17 billion, which was included in the foreign aid bill President Biden signed into law earlier this year.
Republicans have made an effort to make themselves the more pro-Israel party ahead of the November elections and have strongly criticized President Biden despite his full-throated support for the genocidal war in Gaza. Trump has accused Biden of abandoning Israel and has signaled that he will provide strong support for the campaign in Gaza.
The GOP platform also targets pro-Palestinian protesters at college campuses, listing as one of its promises in all caps: “DEPORT PRO-HAMAS RADICALS AND MAKE OUR COLLEGE CAMPUSES SAFE AND PATRIOTIC AGAIN.”
In May, Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) introduced a bill to deport college protesters to Gaza. “I am going to bet that these pro-Hamas supporters wouldn’t last a day, but let’s give them the opportunity,” he said when he put forward the legislation.
The platform also commits to taking a hard line on China: “Republicans will revoke China’s Most Favored Nation status, phase out imports of essential goods, and stop China from buying American Real Estate and Industries.”
So they are trying to help Biden win now?
Indeed. Back in my younger days at least I had some hope that their promises made might be implemented though few ever were. It at least provided some hope with each election. These days its their promises that I find horrifying.
The progressives voting against Biden because he isn't giving them what they want on Israel, sort of amaze me. What do they think DJT is going to do?
Those progressives are not planning to vote against Biden or Trump. They're going to vote FOR Jill Stein. Because, I don't know, I guess they don't care who's in the White House any more…or maybe they'd rather feel pure.
If it's Biden or Trump, why should they care? We've had to choose between Clinton, Biden or Trump in the last 3 election cycles. I'd rather feel "pure".
If they are in dark Blue or Red states, it hardly matters who they vote for.
“Progressives” who ignore genocide because “their team” is doing it, aren’t progressives.
Genocide has been a key element of progressivism since it came into existence. The first progressive president was Theodore Roosevelt, author of the attempt to exterminate the Moros in the Philippines.
Progressives claim not to be war mongers in the present.
“Lady Haw Haw”, “progressive” Rachel Maddow saw GWB’s wars as evil. But endorses current foreign policy under cult leader Biden.
I remember her doing just that on "Countdown", the show with Kieth Olbermann. He was exactly the same. And they both changed their tunes as soon as Obama was elected.
And McKinley was the President who decided that the US should keep the Philipines to "uplift and Christianize" them.
McKinley was no progressive.
Also the progressives of today are not descended from those of the Progressive Era. They just share the same name.
Not that political platforms are anything more than propaganda, but … "We will stand with Israel, and seek peace in the Middle East" is mutually exclusive. The US never seeks peace only it's "interests." Except for Israel. For Israel the US seeks Israel's interests, but then Eretz Yisrael's interests are war.
What was it Biden said? "Were there not an Israel, the United States of America would have to invent an Israel to protect her interests in the region.”
Peace is such infertile ground for a war economy.
No matter what Trump does, I am certain he will get rid of the man actually running Biden's foreign policy and that'll be a welcome improvement. http://m.jpost.com/israel-news/article-767997
Getting rid of Blinken won't change anything.
Donald would install someone worse than Blinken. Who, I don't know, but certainly someone loyal to Israel. I doubt that Trump would do anything to promote peace in Ukraine, unless there's something in it for him personally. And he would ramp up the heat with China.
Donald is just an agent of chaos, nothing more or less.
You can't blame Trump for the chaos we have right now. The democrat regime promise to deliver 4 more years of it.
I am 80. I have seen a lot. I have never seen what has happened since Trump became involved in politics. Don't kid yourself.
But it only tipped the scales from horrible to horrible+.
I’m in my 70s. Don’t you kid yourself.
Trump’s entry into politics and what “happened since” are a product of the same consequence. That consequence being 50 years of both party’s neoliberal economic and political policies that have transformed a once thriving middle-class America into a country more resembling one of the world’s developing economies than it’s first.
You've never before seen what has happened since Trump because the permanent establishment has never before met a threat it couldn't dispose/mitigate through it's vast array of normal means.
To what "chaos" do you refer?
Where do you want to start? IR, NatSec or or the economy?
It’s your term. Start where you want.
I detest Biden, but “chaos?” How so?
His administration is very orderly about the issues that matter most. Weapon shipments to Israel have been steady and sure.
OTOH, the US empire has promoted chaos is the middle east and Central Europe, but there’s a imperialistic method to the bloody madness.
In the middle east, the US is still the leading “infidel” mass slaughterer of Muslims. Israel tries hard but it has a long way to go!
Uncle Sam’s death toll in the middle east is in the millions, in just the past 33 years.
Trump will continue in that tradition, and did so in his last term through his administrations support for the Saudi/UAE administered slaughter in Yemen.
Chaos was Warren's term that you questioned then defined the Biden admin as orderly about what "matters most."
The Afghanistan exfil? The border? The failed Ukraine war? Failed Russian sanctions? The dollar and economy impact? China competition? Genocidal complicity? US soft power?
A universal "matters most" caveat fails without the "how" and the "to whom."
What matters most to Biden.
Trump signed off on the Afghan withdrawal and I’m glad Biden removed US troops from that country. Aren’t you?
Precisely. The man is transactional. If there is no benefit to him directly, there will not be further discourse.
At some point it can only be "as equally bad". I don't know what could be "worse" than Blinken. I think Trump's ego might play a part in the Ukraine/Russia war. He's said so many times that he can end it in 24 hours that I think he'll at least give that a go. Then he might have to worry about another assassin but one with a better aim. And absolutely no doubt about ramping up the heat with China. Plus, we have some of his planned domestic policies to look forward to. I can only imagine how our liberties will be expanded (/s).
"Finish the job" Trump will not change anything. Remember, it was during his administration that the American Embassy was moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
The statement reeks of duplicity.
It is not worse than Blinken's Israel policy of "wipe out all Palestinians in Gaza."
also folks from the Trump wing of the Republican party were among the few to vote against funding the war in Israel and Ukraine.
A couple. That was it. The rest wanted to continue the shipment of 2,000 bombs.
"MAKE OUR COLLEGE CAMPUSES SAFE AND PATRIOTIC AGAIN"?
What is more patriotic than protesting the genocide of innocent people? Will the fervor to support apartheid and crimes against humanity be as strong when body bags full of American men and women start returning to the US when " boots on the ground " becomes our foreign policy? What about when the children of Gaza become old enough to realize where the weapons were manufactured that left them orphans? I fear we are sowing a terrible crop of destruction, and vengeance will be the harvest.
Write in Nobody for every elected federal position in the November ballot.
Evolution now! Use CARI… Computer Assisted Real Intelligence.
Alfred E. Newman for President.
The GOP once again proves it has been infiltrated….
Yawn………………………………………………………………….
Taking the cue from their one eared hero. I swear he posted that in one of his late-night rants.
That's preposterous…! Most of protesters are US citizens and the people of the faith…!
"One-eared hero"? Three days after his attempted murder that horrified all decent people? You're sick.
What, too soon? Get over it. It horrified me too. That doesn't change what I think of him or what I think of his cult. Trump is just like Andy Ogles who you were just bitching about.
Bullshit.
Go fq yourself.
@AnnCoulter
How you know JD Vance was the right choice:
Trump defied "a frantic lobbying effort until the last possible moment by anti-Vance forces, including Rupert Murdoch and his [open-borders, warmonger] allies."
When was the democrat and republican party platforms NOT totally beholden and subservient to the Israel lobby?
Never. The one president who butted heads with Israel was Kennedy. He and Ben-Gurion exchanged terse letters over Israel developing the bomb. Kennedy, correctly, surmised that an Israel with the bomb would be more belligerent in the ME. So, add Israel to the list of persons and organizations who wanted to see Kennedy gone.
George Bush Sr. famously threatened to stop loan guarantees to Israel over settlements in the Occupied West Bank. He LOST his re-election bid.
And not long after his popularity was soaring after he did Iraq 1. Obama hated Netanyahu but still did the 10 year deal. Trump and Biden have been horrible.
Obama never met a principle that he wasn't hypocritical about.
Read: They Dare to Speak Out: by Paul Findley, Lawrence Hill Books, 814 North Franklin Street, Chicago, Illinois 60610.
Thomas A. Dine, executive director of AIPAC, gloated, "The memory of Adlai Stevenson's hostility towards Israel during his Senate tenure lost him the Jewish vote in Illinois–and that cost his the gubernatorial election." Page-92
I’m not familiar with that political race but by “hostility towards Israel” he was probably complaining that Stevenson was calling for some basic fairness for Palestinians.
So, if I join in on a pro-Palestinian protest, I will deported???? After I am beaten bloody, then thrown in jail?
"To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize."
Predictably, with no evidence of course, the Fake News is now attempting to link the attempted assassination of President Trump with Iran. Wishful thinking no doubt.
I'm against colleges being more patriotic.
patriotism is the enemy of objective analysis and scholarship.

So far, 3 massacres today. Israeli Nazis are busy wiping out the Palestinian people. But slaughtering roughly 200,000 people is no victory. It is a catastrophic defeat for the uncivilized West and its regional allies.

250,000 is closer to what may the the death toll. Also, the most recent estimate I have heard about rebuilding is that it may take 15 years. Israel had better foot the ENTIRE cost. We supplied the bombs. But Israeli pilots dropped them on IDF orders.
Hezbollah, its allies, and the Israeli diaspora rapidly leaving Israel will determine how much of Gaza, the West Bank, and Israel will be rebuilt. Will the Israeli state survive in its current incarnation?
It's doubtful that most expat Israelis will return. The US doesn't provide an economic and social climate they'd be attracted to.
The same template could apply to Palestinian refugees.
The idea that we could or should "deport" people for protesting a genocide in Gaza should trouble all patriotic, freedom-loving Americans. Representatives like "Andy Ogles" are more King George III than they are Thomas Jefferson or Patrick Henry.

"When does million of dollars from donors becomes action of corrupting?'
30 years ago or more.
Deport protestors.
Wow. And people are going to vote for these insane fascists?
