A Ukrainian intelligence source told Reuters that a Ukrainian drone targeted a radar deep inside Russian territory that’s part of Russia’s early-warning system to detect nuclear missiles. The incident marks the second time within a week that Ukrainian officials reported attacks on a Russian nuclear warning system, known as “Voronezh M” radars.
The source said that the strike targeted a radar near the city of Orsk in Russia’s Orenburg Oblast, which is over 900 miles away from Ukrainian-held territory. The source didn’t say if there was any damage, and Russian media reported a drone was downed in the Orenburg region and that no civilian infrastructure was hit.
On May 22, a Ukrainian drone targeted a Voronezh M radar in Russia’s Krasnodar Oblast at a radar station about 300 miles from Ukrainian-controlled territory. The US-state-funded RFE/RL reported there was damage to the radar site, citing satellite images, although Reuters said it could not verify the imagery.
While the Russian radars can track missiles fired by Ukraine, the primary function of the early-warning system is to detect intercontinental ballistic missiles to determine if Russia is coming under a nuclear attack. Ukraine’s targeting of the systems could lead to a major response from Russia or potentially a miscalculation as the attacks come at a time of unprecedented nuclear tensions between Washington and Moscow.
The Telegraph reported that the attack on the radar in Krasnodar “sparked alarm” in the west. The report quoted Thord Are Iversen, a Norwegian military analyst, who said it was “not a particularly good idea…, especially in times of tension” and that it was “in everyone’s best interest that Russia’s ballistic missile warning system works well.”
Russia has escalated its war in Ukraine in direct response to Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory. For example, Russia recently launched major strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure after Russian oil refineries came under attack, and President Vladimir Putin has said his offensive in Kharkiv was a response to Ukrainian attacks on Russia’s Belgorod Oblast.
Nothing to worry about, our ‘elites’ are convinced Russia won’t escalate. After all they are both omnipotent and clairvoyant and know far better what Putin will do regardless what he says.
Please Russia eliminate Kiev!
Please, Kiev, eliminate Putin!
Which would solve absolutely nothing at this point.
Maybe, maybe not. Lets find out!
I’d love to see it happen. The propaganda machine would take a huge hit. They’ve put a lot of resources into making this a one man show. It has worked on you.
I have a feeling Medvedev would be nuking the Ukrainians/NATO in Ukraine before Putin’s body is cold.
I know it would put an end to the foolishness that this is just Putin’s war. I can’t believe people fall for that shit.
James Bond’s Villains Syndrome. Crazy unprovoked and unjustified all the Fu@king time!
Sure he would.
When does the Rational Thinking kick in?
Never. Neocons/Deepstaters don’t do rational thinking.
You wouldn’t be able to spot it.
And what would that get us, peace? Hardly.
The Sachs interview is extraordinary, but he consistently advocates diplomacy and peace.
Sometimes Tucker shows his complete ignorance when he acts surprised at something that was written here for decades. Example: Follow how reacts when someone says Assange released this document or another.
I think he did a good job with the interview. He left a lot of space for Sachs to talk and asked some good questions. I don’t know if he plays dumb or is dumb sometimes. I’m not a frequent viewer. I went on rumble to watch something else, but that was at the top and looked better than what I planned.
I think Sachs also plays dumb, like when he doesn’t know motive, in order to buffer some answers. No one wants to be a target.
But some on other sites speculate that they are both operatives or assets of deep state and that there is a turning on policy. I don’t know.
Agree with all your comments.
Russia’s early warning system is much poorer than the Yankee Empire’s. This means the Russians have less time to decide whether any signal is is a real attack, or just a flock of birds, or an equipment malfunction, or whatever. Consequently, the Russians on a hair trigger.
Any further degradation in the Russian’s early warning system, especially in a time of rising tensions, is bad news.
What could go wrong, right?
Answer: …….. A multi million degree suntan.
Well, part of the reason Putin invaded Ukraine was the "defensive" missile silo's we installed in Poland can reach Moscow in 5 minutes. They can be converted into offensive missiles in under 25 minutes. Hence his concern. The more this goes on the more it looks like the NeoCon's running our foreign policy and military are intentionalling drawing Russia into direct conflict. In a game of nuclear chicken, we are all going to lose when someone blinks first.
Playing with Fire…!
Oooooo … so scary!
Oh, by all the gods above, below, and nonexistent, combine this thought with Blinken’s proposal to allow Ukraine to target sites in Russia with long-range missiles supplied by the US. The first attack happened **BEFORE** Blinken’s latest verbal diarrhea. Think for a moment how this will be seen outside the US corporate media echo chamber.
The rest of the world knows our “leadership” is utterly insane.
This is madness. Russia could see it as a prelude to a first strike. These lunatics are going to get us all killed.
This is not helpful. I am all for getting the Russians out of Ukraine but taking out a radar that doesn’t play in this conflict and does provide nuclear security is a terrible move
These radars are AFAIK attacked in preparation for operating the F16 – as these radars can be used against them – if destroying the radars in question would leave Russia open to a first strike to such an extend that they could not retaliate, I'd agree that it would be very problematic.
Yes let’s attack the nuclear early warning systems. That’s the real way to achieve global stability! I wouldn’t be surprised if Russia decides to resurrect Dead Hand in response, not would I blame them for doing so https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_Hand
We kind of depend on them retaliating – if they could not for some reason the risk of the US trying to get rid of them with a first strike would rise considerably and no one should wish for that.
As pointed out by others the Russians have other such capable radars elsewhere so, I don't think, this is not a preparation for a US first strike.
No, but degrading detection capabilities increases the risk of mistaking a flock of seagulls, Space X launch, weather balloon, etc. for a nuclear attack.
Yes that is the center of the issue – but as pointed out Ukraine is only taking out a small fraction of the early detection capabilities and the US/NATO does not in any way have a decapitation advantage – as in the Russian sub based retaliation capability would not be touched.
clearly they have more than one early detection radar. But taking few of them out creates a stage for a false flag operation and a reactionary response the west is looking for.
