The head of US Central Command, Gen. Michael Kurilla, arrived in Israel on Thursday to coordinate on a potential Iranian attack that might come in retaliation for Israel’s bombing of Iran’s consulate in Damascus.
Kurilla was expected to meet with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Herzi Halevi, the head of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).
Separately, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin spoke with Gallant and, according to the Pentagon, told him “that Israel could count on full US support to defend Israel against Iranian attacks.”
US officials believe Iran is planning to target Israel directly and could target military sites on Israeli soil. Bloomberg reported on Wednesday that US intelligence indicates an attack could be “imminent.”
Iranian sources told Reuters on Thursday that Tehran has conveyed to Washington that it plans to respond but in a way that’s not meant to lead to a major regional escalation. The sources also said Iran wouldn’t be hasty, signaling the response might not come as soon as the US believes.
Israel likely bombed Iran’s consulate to provoke a wider war to get the US to intervene directly, which must be factored into Iran’s calculations when it comes to a response. Israeli officials threatened direct attacks on Iran if there was a big Iranian attack on Israeli territory.
Israel has a history of carrying out covert attacks inside Iran but appears to be threatening something bigger, such as airstrikes, which would require US support. The US is also expected to help Israel try to intercept any Iranian missiles that are fired at its territory.
The IDF said Thursday that it was on high alert and prepared to defend from an attack with its partners, referring to the US. “We are ready for attack and defense using a variety of capabilities that the IDF has, and also ready with our strategic partners,” said IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari.
Iran is typically very restrained in its response to Israeli attacks, but the bombing of the consulate marked a huge escalation in Israel’s targeting of Iranians in the region. Seven members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were killed in the bombing, including a senior Quds Force commander and another general.
i typed a 5 minute tirade regarding uncle sam’s hypocrisy but i deleted it because honestly, WTF is the point any more. i mean really, WTF.
Agreed. By the way, is WTF a question or a statement?
Either, or possibly an exclamation or declaration.
Thank you, Brian! Keep contributing!
WTF means that i hate the both of you.
and BTW, do not ever step into my yard.
because IHY and everybody else. LOL
I’m going to pee on your rhododendron tonight…
damnit. my wife is a karate guy.
she has always told me that
“when a man hits me I hit him back at least 3 times”
i’m like; um, so how many times should I hit you back?
the reality is that when she gets too uppity I simply grab her karate punk ass and squash her tiny body underneath my giant bulk until she agrees to go make me a sandwich.
and that is the key to a successful marriage.
I assume you are joking.
I know the feeling. Unfortunately I can never stop wasting my time commenting. Well, at least it helps me organize my own thoughts, there’s that.
What a great “friend” we have in Israel… provoking conflicts all around the region and trying to drag us into another Middle East war. And of course, spineless Congress where just about every single member from both of our war parties received hundreds of thousands from AIPAC, which somehow doesn’t have to register as a foreign agent and just freely corrupt politicians. Where do we even start? I’m just as hopeless as the last commenter.
“Spineless” Congress is just as useless as a “brainless” or “corrupt.” But if it is a competition, then I win. I’m even more hopeless than you are.
Contrary to mass-popular belief, or basic understanding is that the US has been disrupting the Middle East (Iraq,Syria) so that Iran can expand. The US is drawing Iran and Israel into a war, as they did Ukraine and Russia. They need both Iran, and Russia with a direct enemy so they can focus on China. They cannot fight a three front war, they supply Ukraine and use them a meat puppets to keep Russia occupied in Black Sea region. Iran and Israel cannot wait to go at it, and while they are deep in war, the US will engage China. China will lose its oil supply from Russia and Iran, or disrupted, and China will be forced to Invade NorthEast Russia, Trump will be president and he will work an agreement to split Ukraine, Russia enraged by Chinese attack joins US to fight China, BRICS is destroyed and Russia, brokered via trump gets what it needs. It’s US & Russia who are really working together. It’s always the opposite of what things may seem. Israel, Russia, US
Iran has been incredibly conservative on starting shit. I don’t think they are anxious to go at it.
Hezbollah has likewise not climbed the escalation ladder.
Almost correct. What the US wanted in Europe was 1) Russia weakened and its government overthrown, and 2) the EU economy weakened so it’s not a competitor. Didn’t happen – except for the latter, which did. So a partial win for the US.
In the Middle East, the US wants Iran’s infrastructure destroyed so its economy collapses and its government is overthrown. They need that because they can’t allow Iran to control the oil flow when the US starts a war with China. The US wants the oil to go to them and not to China, so it needs to control Iran. Won’t happen, either and it’s likely to be a disaster for the US with Iran, Iraq, Syria, Hezbollah, Russia and China likely to come out on top and Israel – the “US aircraft carrier” – destroyed. But the US HAS to get directly involved because Israel by itself can not win a war with Iran without going nuclear – and that would also be a disaster for the US because it would bring Russia and China.
Russia and China just released a statement which all the analysts agree means that the two of them will intervene militarily, not only if either one is attacked, but if “peace is threatened”. Everyone interprets this as a signal to the US vis-a-vis Iran. Both Russia and China, especially China, need Iran intact.
There’s a good chance the US will never get to China because after Ukraine and the Middle East war it will be so weakened it can’t seriously threaten China. The Middle East war is likely to last years like Afghanistan because Iran and the Axis of Resistance will never surrender while draining US military capability even worse than Ukraine did. Which is exactly what the Axis of Resistance plan is.
There might also be so much internal unrest in the US due to the economic collapse that will occur when the oil price spikes because Iran controls the Persian Gulf oil flow that it will have to spend more time trying to quell that.
We went after the German economy with the Nord Stream attack. Concerning China, it is well to remember that China and Russia border each other. Therefore, there are threats to both, if there is a nuke attack on one. A response by both would be an “On the Beach” scenario.
I am tracking with you and we are thinking similarly, however i think Russia will do what Russia needs and is the wildcard that flips once Trump is elected. DT will broker Ukraine to be split East/West Nato(west)/Russia and be the ally, and turning point of this WW conflict. The latest “terror” attack was already the pre-cursor I believe. Yes, China and Russia need Iran intact, but if the conflict between US/Russia is dissolved… then unfortunately Iran/China are very without the third leg of the stool, and we know what happens when a stool has two legs.
It just shows that the simplest Israeli plan to entrain the US worked.
The brainless giant is so easily led.
Unbelievable.
Was that Kurilla or Cruella de Vil?
It’s Gorilla…!
“Gorilla” would imply that the US actually has some military capability, which is no longer the case.
The only “gorilla” in the room these days is Russia.
That’s Guerrilla…!
Israel is crossing one red line after another, it is repeating the behavior that it earlier had labeled it as age-old accusation of Blood Libel ,and US is supplying arms to make the crimes possible but it is Iran that is about to unleash attacks that would defintely be less severe than any of those delivered by Israel.
So the messaging from the USA, is assassinating people in Foreign Embassies is NOT a crime? I am so ashamed that those in our Military, our Top Offices, are ignorant of LAWS, I thought we were the Nation of the “Rule of Law”, that we were the example to follow. We as a Government are dishonest, hypocritical, backstabbers, traitors to our Republic and everything it stands for. Israel BROKE Laws, has been breaking laws for decades and what do we do, we COWER. Why would any American encourage their child to go into the Military, just to become a War Criminal for the Zionist State of Israel?
Iran is also in contact with Russia regarding its retaliation…! This is not a collaboration to choose a target in Israel as Iran knows all sensitive spots in Israel… rather have Russia to issue a warning to Israel in case of a cowardly nuclear counterattack after Iran’s potential retaliation…!
Could be. There has been talk (and advocacy by persons in the right- wing Israeli government) of using tactical nukes on Iran (even Gaza).
So many targets to choose from…how can they be ready?
What would we do without “Great Ally” to get us continually involved in Middle East Wars?
Would that be General ‘Magilla’ Kurilla?
