Iranian forces seized a Panamanian-flagged oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz Wednesday, marking the second such incident within a week.
According to the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet, the ship, the Niovi, was seized after leaving Dubai and heading towards Fujairah, another UAE port.
Iranian media said Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps Navy (IRGCN) seized the “violator” vessel but did not say why.
Last week, the Iranian Navy seized a Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker, the Advantage Sweet, in the Sea of Oman that was bound for the US. Iranian officials said the ship was seized after it collided with an Iranian fishing vessel and tried to leave the area.
Both incidents came after the Biden administration forced a tanker carrying Iranian oil to deliver the cargo to the US instead of China. Using sanctions enforcement as a pretext, the Justice Department seized the tanker Suez Rajan with a court order after it was loaded with Iranian oil.
A US official told Financial Times that the Iranian seizure of the Advantage Sweet appeared to be retaliation for the US move. The US has a history of stealing Iranian oil and gas shipments, and Tehran has previously responded by seizing tankers.
All by design to increase price of oil. From Russia and Saudi Arabia with love.
Your argument carries some weight if and only if Iran and the US take this oil off the market. But if the US or Iran or both sell the oil they have seized, the argument fails.
those tiny amounts of oil are just drops in the bucket
Yep. There are more than 800 Very Large Crude Carrier tankers operating at the moment. And that’s just one of six categories of oil transport ship. Let alone oil moved by pipeline, rail, etc.
the reality is that more oil is exported from the US every day than is imported.
the price of oil and therefore fuel is determined by big oil industry.
price of gasoline per gallon in russia = $2.35 US
price of gasoline per gallon in saudi = $2.50 US
price of gasoline per gallon in iran = $0.20 US (20 cents)
you know what? never mind. i give up.
“Seize the day!”…. Nah, seize the oil…
I just love it when Iran f*cks the United Snakes 😁
Persians need oil tankers. Nothing personal. Just business.
Ar least they aren’t insulting everyone’s intelligence with a bogus hit-and-run story this time.
Perhaps it’s their way of getting our attention away from…..
Iran’s former deputy defense minister, Alireza Akbari, was secretly a British asset deep in the Islamic Republic’s regime, sharing valuable intelligence on Iran
A former senior Iranian official who was executed by Tehran in January is now being revealed to have been a British mole https://www.i24news.tv/en/news/middle-east/iran-eastern-states/1682932598-spying-in-iran-the-tragic-end-of-a-double-agent-working-for-britain
Or there was a power struggle and the dead guy lost.
If Iran did this type of things they would’ve killed ahmedinezad and Mousavi instead of holding one in house arrest and letting the other one run free and keep trying to be president again.
They are well known to have killed political dissidents living abroad.
Good for Iran, the US government cannot seem to stop stealing and pillaging from other countries…go figure.
It had a broken tail light ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Wait! Why is the US stealing oil? I thought this administration wants to be environmentally correct and off oil? Huh????
