Taiwanese Premier Chen Chien-jen confirmed on Monday that the US and Taipei are in talks about establishing a contingency stockpile of weapons for a future fight with China located on or near the island of Taiwan.
“The proposal of regional contingency stockpiles is still in the negotiation process,” Chen said, according to The South China Morning Post.
The 2023 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that President Biden signed into law in December included several measures to increase support for Taiwan, including the authorization to spend $100 million each year on a “regional contingency stockpile” of arms for Taiwan.
Chen said the US and Taiwan have been in talks on the issue since the NDAA became law. Beijing is strongly against the growing military ties between Washington and Taipei and launched major military exercises around Taiwan in response to Biden signing the NDAA.
Taiwanese officials won’t say if the plan is to establish the stockpile in Taiwan or at a US base elsewhere in the region, such as in Okinawa. If the stockpile is located in Taiwan, it likely wouldn’t be publicized over concerns of provoking a Chinese response.
According to the Taiwanese news agency CNA, the US has experience stockpiling weapons in Taiwan as it established depots on the island that were used in bombing missions during the Vietnam War. If the US re-establishes a stockpile in Taiwan, it would likely build a new facility or expand an existing one.
Another Asian land work is in the works. And another war that will be lost after how many killed in vain and how much American’s stolen wages are squandered for that purpose.
A “future fight” with China?…. Taiwan: take two aspirins and call us in the morning. I’m not prepared to get nuked, for anybody. World War III? Smack my head…
If Boston got nuked, would you support retaliation in kind?
Ah, now that is a very good question Jake… I don’t think it is a question easily answered, other than to say, I am opposed to any escalation but then again, human nature seems to indicate that is a course of action we would probably choose to take…
Boston won`t get nuked because the US will not engage directly in a war with China just as it won`t get in a direct fight with Russia keeping the wars regional and supplying the weapons for the proxy wars , remember this the US will not take on countries that can fight back , out of the 33 countries the US has invaded only three have beat them at their own game , the Chinese supporting North Korea and again supporting the North Vietnamese , and the Taliban in Afghanistan .
Great idea. I guess Taiwan must read our MSM to get their information on how well things are working out with Ukraine.
The lunatics are now running the Biden asylum & have been from DAY ONE…..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Under the official “One China” policy, and definitely not meant to evoke an unprovoked-and-illegal-invasion of Taiwan. Their casuistry is just too subtle for the Chinese, eh.?
Stockpiles make good targets for China in finally taking over that “independent” off-shore island supported by US bought and paid for congress-critters who claim to be “representatives” of the American people.
The yanks would probably keep the stock piles on US bases so the Chinese would not attack them directly , for the Chinese to attack a base would be a act of war against the yanks which they would like nothing better shouting from the roof tops we told you the Chinese where the aggessors in a bid to turn the world against China as they have done with Russia .
This weapons stockpile idea was a brainstorm from bought and paid for US “representatives” after a “wargame” which the US lost big-time, as with other such games.
Here’s an opinion from Andrew Anglin–
It would become a nuclear ground ZERO in any serious confrontation.
wait, why is Biden in charge?
why was Trump allowed to be in charge?
OMG why is Chuck Norris not in charge.
how hilarious would america be if Chuck friggin Norris was the boss of all of us.
high-ya!
you stupid bastards….
The last website referenced shows a pic of the museum, which is the old Base Chapel when the US had thousands of AF personnel stationed at CCKAB.
Sooner or later China will make it`s move and the yanks will do jack shit , what they will do is exactly what they are doing in Ukraine get the Taiwan people to fight China for them , however China has over whelming forces , out simply Taiwan dose`t have a cat in hells chance fighting a war with China .
Now?
They just decided they need to stockpile some weapons now?
No one ever thought to do so? Is Joe the one doing the daily work on this; it sure seems to be his level of competence?
A new missile contract that won’t be completed until 2029 and they just decided to stockpile a measly $100 million a year in weapons?
I might be a little paranoid and suspicious but these folks aren’t acting like they believe something is going to happen even 5 years down the line, if ever.
Obviously this means we must increase the military budget by 2-300% today to stop this immediate threat (that won’t happen for years, or decades, if it ever does)
“Taiwan in Talks With US About Weapons Stockpile on or Near Island The 2023 NDAA includes $100 million for a weapons stockpile for Taiwan”
Most of the world recognize Taiwan as being part of mainland China. Even the US Department of State labels the island as part of China in their One China statement.
What would happen if China started arming Puerto Rico or better yet Hawaii and encouraging them to break away from America.
Over 50% of Taiwan’s trade is with China and they are culturally intertwined.
“Even the US Department of State labels the island as part of China in their One China statement.”
Really? Got a link to that statement?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_China
I asked for a link that supports your claim, not one that doesn’t. Feel free to keep trying until you figure out that your claim is false.
No the claim is real and valid, however Blinken and Nuland changed the DOS web site and it no longer adheres to the One China policy as it did before several months ago. Previously the DOS statement fully supported the One China policy and it was in place for decades.
I guess when you want to foment a war you have to cover your tracks.
So Blinken and Nuland managed to completely erase half a century of history and get rid of all references to any official US statement, ever, agreeing with the PRC that Taiwan is part of it?
What, don’t you have a dog you can blame for eating your homework? That would be more believable.
Silly man they control US policy and their web site.
They don’t control the other 1.99 billion web sites, though.
They also don’t control the the pre-existing books and other printed documents.
The reason you can’t find an official statement from the US government supporting the claim that Taiwan is part of the PRC is because the US government has never made any such statement.
Your question was about the Department of State web site not the large volume of data online that has support the One China Policy for decades.
Try this one! https://www.csis.org/analysis/what-us-one-china-policy-and-why-does-it-matter
Thanks for another link supporting my pointing out of the fact that the US has never recognized PRC jurisdiction over Taiwan:
—–
The United States did not, however, give in to Chinese demands that it recognize Chinese sovereignty over Taiwan (which is the name preferred by the United States since it opted to de-recognize the ROC). Instead, Washington acknowledged the Chinese position that Taiwan was part of China. For geopolitical reasons, both the United States and the PRC were willing to go forward with diplomatic recognition despite their differences on this matter. When China attempted to change the Chinese text from the original acknowledge to recognize, Deputy Secretary of State Warren Christopher told a Senate hearing questioner, “[W]e regard the English text as being the binding text. We regard the word ‘acknowledge’ as being the word that is determinative for the U.S.”

The US “One China Policy” does not now, and never has, included any claim that Taiwan is part of the People’s Republic of China or subject to its jurisdiction. That’s just a fact. If you think it isn’t, again, try to find so much as a single instance of the Department of State or any other US government body saying otherwise.
You guys have got this all wrong.
“Taiwan in Talks With US About Weapons Stockpile on or Near Island The 2023 NDAA includes $100 million for a weapons stockpile for Taiwan”
That’s $100 million of “funny money” — ie printed out of thin air or maybe collected in taxes … some day — and given to the weapons makers. Happy weapons makers. Then it’s delivered free of charge to the Taiwanese and put in some warehouse on the island. Where it would sit … briefly … gathering dust.
Mission accomplished. No fuss. No muss. No war. The Taiwanese aren’t out any money. So there’s now a warehouse full of weapons sitting around … quietly … so what? It’s not doing anything. No harm done. Everybody’s happy. (Well okay, the Mainland Chinese are a little miffed, but chill, we’ll take care of that shortly.)
Finally, make sure to hop to it and get that warehouse filled up on the double … before Jan 13, 2024. Because that’s when Taiwan holds it next election. And if the Taiwanese decide they don’t want to be the next Ukraine — the Taiwanese are pretty smart — they will elect the KMT, who can then take office, invite the mainland Chinese to send over a ship to pick up those weapons … free of charge … and take them back with them to the mainland. A little gift. A little gesture. Business … yes! War … no thanks.
That would probably put an end to this whole “We have to arm Taiwan to the teeth!” shtick.
Have a nice day.
