Israeli airstrikes targeted the Syrian capital of Damascus early Friday morning for the second day in a row, marking the fifth time in March that Israel bombed Syria.
Syria’s state news agency SANA reported that Syrian air defenses “intercepted hostile targets” in the airspace of Damascus. There was no mention of any casualties or damage caused by the strikes.
Less than 24 hours earlier, SANA reported that two Syrian soldiers were wounded in Israeli strikes on the Syrian capital. Israeli officials haven’t commented on either strike, as Israeli typically does not take credit for individual airstrikes in Syria.
The intensified Israeli airstrikes in Syria come as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is facing a political crisis at home. After massive protests and dissent within the Israeli government, Netanyahu delayed his controversial judicial overhaul, but unrest in the country continues.
Earlier this month, Israeli airstrikes targeted the airport in the Syrian city of Aleppo, which was devastated by the massive earthquake that hit northwest Syria and Turkey on February 6. The strikes temporarily shut down the airport, cutting off a vital channel for earthquake aid.
Israel claims its operations in Syria target Iran and Iranian weapons shipments, but the airstrikes often kill Syrians and damage civilian infrastructure.
Everyone ought to demand the immediate and permanent end of militaristic and financial support for the Israeli apartheid regime.
BDS.

When you look at the way that Bibi parts his hair, doesn’t he remind you of another dictator. [All that’s missing is a little hair on his upper lip.
When things are not looking too peachy internally with the anti democratic move by a corrupt PM, it’s time to shift the focus on your neighbor to force unity.
Sounds like US and Isreal use the same war monger playbook.
Israel is fast becoming a reflection from the past:NAZIS.
The irony. To become what you hate. So it goes.
The idea of calling out all evil deeds as Nazi has the unfortunate consequence of deflating the true evil that was the Nazi deeds.
Israel is in many ways very similar to many of the Nazi policies – but airstrikes on a ‘hostile’ neighbor is not a good case to point to a similarity.
What set the Nazi apart from most other really bad regimes was their racial policies and if you want to be less exclusive also their appetite for conquering more land (lebensraum). Though the second feature was in part because of their (fundamentally wrong) economic thinking.
Israel is in many ways an in effect apartheit (Jewish) state where people of the wrong faith are treated different – their way of justifying actions morally corrupt/flawed and their treatment of what in effect is occupied people and land falls short of all current standards.
It is only the fact that the morally corrupt US has held their hands over the Israelis over the many years which has made their policies (near) sustainable – I say near as they are only sustainable because of US aid.
Thank you for your in-depth reply. You make some good points.
US aid has prevented a nuclear first strike by an outnumbered desperate people.
Could you explain this, because I’m not sure I get the point you are making.
Is it the Israeli’s who are desperate, and if so at what point since they got nukes have they been in a desperate situation – I get that they are outnumbered, but numbers does not count for much in the wars that Israel has been in – otherwise they would have been wiped off the map several times already.
Well said.
They are far from perfect, but must do much of what they do to survive.
But, there must be some limitations Jake.
If we’re not careful, Israel will have us in World War 3.
Long ago?
Israel was a nation that I looked up to. Especially when I read about their history from 1948 until about 1973.
But, ever since the Sabra and Shatila massacre of 1982?
It has – gradually – sunk into me that Israel are not the ‘good guys’ after all.
I would go so far as to call them (and I am not the first, obviously) the Apartheid of the 21st century.
I have nothing against Judaism. Nor do I care about it (or any other religion).
But I despise, the disgusting way Israel treats the Palestinians.
And it’s utter contempt for any other country if it deems them in the remotest sense a threat.
