The US Navy wants a full-service submarine hub in Australia that can oversee all underwater activity in the Asia Pacific, including production and repairs, Defense News reported Thursday.
The report cited comments from Navy Secretary Carlos del Toro, whose vision will be possible under AUKUS, the military pact signed between the US, Britain, and Australia in 2021 as part of an effort to build alliances against China.
AUKUS focuses on technology-sharing and will give Australia access to American and British nuclear-powered submarine technologies. Del Toro said that AUKUS is about “being able to repair our submarines much further out, being able to build them in Australia as well, too, and create that much more presence in the Indo-Pacific where we need it the most.”
President Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak are expected to unveil the details of AUKUS submarine deals on Monday during a meeting aboard a submarine in San Diego. Australia is expected first to purchase American Virginia class attack submarines, which will be delivered in the early 2030s.
Australia will then purchase a new British-designed submarine, called the SSN-AUKUS, that’s expected to arrive in the 2040s. The ultimate goal is for Australia to be able to build its own SSN-AUKUS submarines with US or British-provided nuclear propulsion. Over the next few decades, Canberra is expected to spend over $100 billion on the plan.
The submarines Australia will acquire are not expected to be armed with nuclear weapons, but that could always change. Either way, China views the submarine buildup as a provocation since the underwater craft will be used to patrol the waters of the South China Sea. The US also has plans to deploy more troops and aircraft to Australia as part of its buildup, including nuclear-capable B-52 bombers.
Austrlia has never been invaded (other than the Europeans invaded and stole the land from the natives) in its history and will likely never be invaded ever due to geography. And yet look at what the neocon propaganda is doing, spending all this money for the American military industrial complex. Pro war propaganda turns people’s brain into mush.
If the US and its allies do not cease and desist from their warlike actions there will not be life in the 2030s and 2040s. Australia under pressure from another White Supremist country is about to go down the rabbit hole of Military sending a sure fire path to misery for the population.
And who is this “white supremacist” country you are speaking of?US demographics. and power distribution has changed very rapidly. Brown and black people now have jobs at the centers of power. China would not mind getting Australia for its wheat production.
With friends like US Neocons who need enemies /S
It’s a long story -I’ll do my best to cut it short.
Once upon a time there was a Australian PM [Kevin Rudd] who spoke Mandarin fluently and who thought it was a brilliant idea to try get along with the Chinese Government.
Australia was at the height of a economic boom which was made possible by China importing Australia’s mining exports including all the wrong stuff such as coal.
This wasn’t allowed to be – how dare you do a roaring trade with China and the Neocons quickly organized a Washington friendly inner party coup and replaced Mr Rudd with the dreaded Julia Gillard a fake Leftist who wasted no time in committing Australian troops to ”assist” the US in Afghanistan to 2023 [and beyond]
Another thing was that those coal exports to China had to be stopped however not for climate related reasons.
Guess who picked up the slack?
It’s a similar game plan how the Northstream pipelines were blown up only for the Norwegians to start pumping pretty much straight away or how US fracked gas need to replace cleaner Russian Natural gas.
It’s all about the Benjamins just like no nation is allowed to export their natural resources such as crude unless they’ve signed along the dotted line privatized the relevant state owned industries and then accepted payment in the approved currency which is simply created out of thin air – Euro’s or Gold Dinars are most likely to invite being bombed back to the stone age or risk having a hord of cut throats released from death row in Saudia Arabia and let loose in order to realize the objectives of the effing deep state.
I’ve gone on too long already….
IMO It’s downright treasonous to allow a foreign power to decide and dictate who Australia should or shouldn’t be trading with only to take over that trade themselves – however that appears to be the extend of US influence over Canberra’s spineless Neoliberal poodle club.
Now it’s wasting public funds on Submarines – Guess were not all that close to nuclear toast just keep those funds flowing towards the MIC.
As always – times of peace are far more beneficial for everyday people – the last thing they need is a spineless government wasting public funds created by borrowing from the financial elite in order to realize the long term objectives of the financial elite.
Here is your comment in a video.

Nicely done CM.
Thanks bookmarked!
Who’s that nasty weasel near the end? I’ve seen and heard that part of the clip previously but no name comes to mind.
To state the obvious – Times of peace will be far more prosperous for everyone but the Neocons and their masters who’s have no real purpose in life but to create and provoke conflicts which are then used to maintain their glib hold over politics while meddling with the outcome of elections is done on a scale must dare not imagine.
What followed the Rudd inner party coup was another inner party coup where he returned as PM once again – the elections that followed were won by the Australian Labor party with a majority of the vote.
It wasn’t to be.
Those nefarious Greens declined to enter into a coalition with Labor because they had formed an alliance with Bob Katter [while they did give their preferences to coal baron Clive Palmer] so in the end they didn’t have the majority of seats while I recently discovered that some of the Greens are disciples of Klaus Schwab[stick]
The Liberals didn’t have the outright numbers however they had formed a coalition with the nationals and several different Liberal branches which enabled them to win the 2013 election with yet more inner party coups to follow which qualified Canberra as the undisputed coup capital of the world.
Who’s that nasty weasel near the end? I’ve seen and heard that part of the clip previously but no name comes to mind.
I think you are talking about John Mearsheimer?
Yup that’s him, I don’t know him real well – so if the the New Yorker describes him as one of he fiercest critics of US foreign policy since the end of the cold war and now even blames the US for the situation in The Ukraine then it appears that I’ve misinterpreted his sarcasm.
Awe, it happens. Just giving you an assist. (Besides, I may need to borrow your size 12’s)
You’re welcome too them (^^,)
That’s the spirit…thanking you my friend!
How much is THAT going to cost us. We have to pay for the privilege to park our nuke subs there. Next to Australia’s.
Doubt it – It won’t cost all that much if anything – however the Chinese own Darwin’s port and that could have consequences.
If only the Canberra poodle club had a spine they could have negotiated that all charges against of Julian Assange are dropped and secured his release.
Instead they roll over and play nice and allow Washington’s dog’s of war do anything they like.
Wow, I thought the B-52 Bomber was an antique. They must have revamped it?… I don’t think I will be vacationing in Australia, anytime soon…. At any rate, this is full on war prep for WWIII. “If you’re happy it and you know it, clap your hands. Clap, clap!!!”
Word of the day: VAPORIZE. (Thank you Mr. Rogers.)
The eight jet engines have been upgraded. In fact Boeing is upgrading the whole aircraft.
The Drive: https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/our-first-look-at-what-fully-upgraded-b-52-bombers-will-look-like
Wouldn’t it be just if we could simply post our thoughts below that particular pro-war article?
Standoff missiles make the B-52 still useful and reliable.
Kick the tires and light the fires.
Leave it up to U.S. to turn another country into its own junkyard.
Stupidity continues, and fear of China completely divorced from reality but fed by the “free media” of Murdoch, US “thinktanks” and lack of independence or territorial integrity Australia pretends it has.
China is preparing a first strike against Taiwan and the US. Fears are quite justified.
Australia is a US LACKEY and will do what ever the Yanks want even if it does put Australian`s in the cross airs of Chinese Nukes , the NATO LACKEYS seem to think if they have the US on their side they won`t have to suffer the consequences of their actions .
“US Navy Wants to Turn Australia Into a Full-Service Submarine Hub Australia is set to spend over $100 billion over the coming decades on submarines under the AUKUS deal”
Did the government of Australia ask the citizens if they want to spend $100 Billion to become ground zero for future conflicts.
Nuclear winter begins at home I suppose.
The diversion of more and more public funds [created as debt] towards the MIC is all part and package of the entire spiel – It all add’s up – so in the end the loans cannot be repaid which is how the creditors of these loans gain control over government – Forget about the threat of becoming nuclear toast this is what it’s really all about.
