In the days after the invasion of Ukraine, the White House assessed President Vladimir Putin would end the attack if the US froze over $300 billion owned by the Russian central bank. However, the Washington-led economic war on Moscow has failed to have a major impact on the Russian economy.
According to Bloomberg, in the immediate reaction to Russian forces invading Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the White House began to develop the "economic equivalent of a nuclear weapon" to use against Moscow. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan led the team that designed the sanctions on Moscow’s economy and froze $300 billion in assets of the Russian central bank.
The Joe Biden administration believed the economic war inflicted "shock and awe" on the Russian economy. Bloomberg reported some American officials worried the actions would do too much damage to Russia.
So far, the Western economic war on Russia has failed to have its designed impact on Moscow’s economy. Despite predictions of a double-digit GDP contraction in 2022, the Russian economy held firm, with the rouble one of the top-performing currencies against the dollar.
Nicholas Mulder, a Cornell professor specializing in sanctions, says Washington has changed its strategy. "They’ve given up the expectation that this will change Russian decision-making." He continued, "Instead, they see it as an economic war of attrition."
Citizens in Western nations have felt the impacts of the economic war. Energy prices have skyrocketed in Europe. Meanwhile, Americans have struggled with decades-high inflation.
In recent years sanctions have become a favorite tool for policymakers in Washington. As foreign policy analyst Richard Hanania explains, "sanctions are used mostly because they give the impression that the American government is doing something between war and nothing."
The US has maintained extensive sanctions on North Korea, Cuba, Venezuela and Syria for decades. The embargoes have failed to change the governments of those countries, but international organizations point out that sanctions have caused citizens of those countries to suffer.
Alena Douhan, the UN Special Rapporteur on coercive measures, said, Social or humanitarian aid "very often can’t be supplied because of sanctions, despite existing exemptions."
She argued a country targeted by unilateral sanctions can "slide backward on the development scale." Douhan warned that "sanctions may be a major threat preventing targeted countries from achieving the universal Sustainable Development Goals that are meant to improve the lives of everyone."
Expert on US economic warfare, Daniel Larison, claims Washington has a credibility issue with its sanctions. "Our government has a real credibility problem in that our promises to lift sanctions and make other concessions are not believable." He continued, "This greatly complicates the ability of our negotiators to strike bargains with other governments to resolve outstanding disputes."
Still, the Biden administration is preparing to roll out another traunch of sanctions on Moscow in the coming days. The new sanctions will target Russian banks, the financial sector and the defense industry. The European Union is also planning a new round of sanctions and is considering using the $300 billion in frozen Russian assets to fund Ukraine’s reconstruction.
As the US has sanctioned an increasing number of countries – Iran, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Syria, Yemen, North Korea, Zimbabwe, China and Russia – institutions such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization have grown to facilitate trade between blacklisted countries. "The relationship between countries that are sanctioned by the US, such as Iran, Russia or other countries, can overcome many problems and issues and make them stronger," Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi said. "The Americans think whichever country they impose sanctions on, it will be stopped. Their perception is a wrong one."

Mr President, with all due respect, you’re an embarrassment to the nation and I urge you- I beg you- to stop this insane course of action against Russia. The sanctions already in place have only served to make Russia stronger- not weaker- and they’ve certainly had more negative effects on us and our European allies (at least allies for the time being) than on Russia. The Ukraine is dying, Mr President, and using American citizens’ taxpayer dollars as a band-aid will not save that country. All we are doing is prolonging the death of the Ukraine and absolutely guaranteeing the deaths of more of its citizens. End US involvement in the Ukraine and let this war come to a close, Mr President, before some incident spins out of control and our great nation is sucked into a war with Russia- which we know will not go well- and we are dealt wounds that may prove to be fatal. You are the President of the strongest nation on this planet and it is within your power to either lead the world to peace, or lead it closer to self-destruction. The choice is yours.
So strong the stench makes decent people barf halfway round the planet…!!!!!!!!
The man devoted all his life to the mobilization of The West for the war against Russia and now, when it is going so fine, you are asking him to abandon everything and recognize his life as a complete failure. It is the same as ask him to give all his money to the poor and hang himself.
I suppose this is a joke!?
Well the guy is a complete idiot, so there’s that…
So far, they managed to steal less than one-third of those $300 billions of Russian money. The rest is beyond their reach. The other news from Bloomberg: G 7 assets trapped in Russia are of greater value than Russian money trapped in The West. Russia never arrested G 7 assets in Russia, they are still working but they can’t leave the country and their profit is also trapped in Russia.
What I don’t understand is why would an energy producing country be susceptible to the world most consuming country’s sanction?
No one man, especially one who has sworn to protect the Constitution, should be able to wield so much power without checks and balances. I don’t know if Biden wants to be the Emperor of Earth. But one of his successors likely will… if Congress and the Court continue to look away.
Our (US) hubris and arrogance will be our undoing… Where are the peacemakers? Ah, there aren’t any, not on the government level. The government answers to a higher power: The MIC.
The Soviets lost 25 million people in WW II and it didn’t stop them but Washington thought they could do it with accounting. Bad Vlad could out think these people in his sleep.
The level of research that went into this piece is impressive. Thanks Kyle!
I don’t know which is worse:
That someone likened sanctions to a nuclear attack, and that completely insane metaphor was accepted, showing a complete lack of awareness of the physical horrors of an actual nuclear attack.
Or the fact they used what they deemed to be an attack of nuclear magnitude on an actually nuclear armed country, hoping to destroy it, as an opening move in a proxy war.
Or that our press thinks, less than two weeks after revelation that the USA perpetuated a massive terrorist attack on that country, we’d e listening to them brag about trying to destroy Russia.
You all realize these freaks are balancing the continuation of human life on the patience and sanity of fucking Vlad Putin?
“You all realize these freaks are balancing the continuation of human life on the patience and sanity of fucking Vlad Putin”
I believe so. This is fucking scary!
You know, when someone compares two thing, they do not claim they are the same. It is very easy to compare sanctions and nukes. That’s not to say they’re the same magnitude, or horror or anything like that.
Saying you can’t compare nukes and sanctions is like saying you can’t compare sex and barbecue. “That someone likened barbecue to the bedroom shows a complete lack of awareness of the physical anatomy of actual sex”. And yet we all still know what a sausage is.
Nukes and sanctions are like each other in that they hurt people totally uninvolved in war, and are incredibly far reaching. The similarity stops there. But that’s enough to make a metaphor.
The EU is considering using the frozen assets, except they can’t actually find them. They use the term “frozen” as if it meant that the Russia money was parked in banks, turns out only about ten percent of it was truly “Frozen” the rest of it was not in banks which were under direct control of the West and therefore wasn’t actually frozen at all. Where did this money go? Looks like most of it made it’s way back to Russia.
Think of it like this. Let’s say you have millions of Rouble and you heard that the EU was going to “Freeze” it, what would you do? Would you leave it in the bank or would you buy something with that money as quickly as you could in any way possible?
If you look at the numbers you know that this is actually true. Since this is such a large percentage of the total Rouble held by Russia it’s literally Impossible for the economy to only contract by 2%. You can’t take over 10% of their available funds out of the economy and see a 1% contraction, it would have to hurt MORE than that. But if the majority of that money found it’s way home, lets say 90% of it, then you would see a contraction of one or two percent, which fits the data very well.
The stealing of Russian Rouble didn’t hurt as bad as they thought, because they were not actually able to steal as much of it as they though. 2+2 still equals 4.
That makes perfect sense! I had doubted all along that Putin would be so stupid as to invade Ukraine while having so much money vulnerable to seizure by the U.S./NATO. It was announced awhile back that Russia missed a debt payment. I imagine that Putin told the creditor to get the payment from the seized account. I wonder if the creditor complained to Washington D.C./ NATO that they are holding its payment money? If the creditor is based in the West; I wonder if they quietly received their payment?
You bring up a good point, and it’s certainly part of the story, but I think you’ve misunderstood how a contraction is measured. While these numbers are denominated in rubles or dollars, they don’t actually measure either. It is very much possible that in nominal terms, russia contracted 10% (or slightly less), but in real terms russia grew (which is what we see). Everything must be adjusted for inflation/deflation. Reducing the supply of rubles by “freezing” them doesn’t actually ruin Russia’s factories or refineries or mines or drills or anything. They still have the power to produce everything they were producing before. Just now they have to put a different number by their price tag. And once you adjust for this change, russia has grown.
What are Pharmbiotest labs in Ukraine……………People in the Luhansk region were being experimented with HIV infection and Corona virus infections since 2015. Ukrainian army service members, drug addicts and prisoners were infected with HIV and Corona virus’s. NOTE: as early as 2015. These labs could well be where Covid19 originated hence Victoria Nuland’s panic when Russia invaded and took control of these labs. Russia has provided the documentation which they obtained when they intervened in the Donbass. I have always asked the Question….did Civid19 originate in the US biolabs in Ukraine?
Pharmbiotest labs were funded by US NGO’s including NIAID which was indirectly forwarding NIH money.
What are Metabiota labs in Ukraine……………Metabiota was founded by Hunter Biden through his investment firm Rosemont Seneca Technology Partners.
Metabiota signed an 18.4 million federal contract as a subcontractor to Black & Veatch researching bioweapons in Ukraine. The top Ukrainian investigator Viktor Shokin started an investigation into Hunter Biden’s company for corruption. In an act of text book “corruption and abuse of power” Joe Biden threatened to stop the billions in aid to Kiev if they did not fire Viktor Shokin immediately.
On the day the Russian SMO started 24/2/22 Zelensky ordered the destruction of all state docs associated with Metabiota and Pharmbiotest. NBC had a film crew in Kiev who accidentally filmed the Ukrainian intelligence workers burning the documents. NBC lied and claimed the fires were due to Russia bombing of Kiev.
In 2014 Metabiota, Wuhan institute of virology and the EHA were all named as researchers on a study of infectious diseases derived from Chinese bats.
Now we complete the links to Biden’s corruption in Ukraine, the war in Ukraine and the Covid19 outbreak.
Hair-raising.
Chinese peace plan point 8
8. Reducing strategic risks. Nuclear weapons must not be used and nuclear wars must not be fought. The threat or use of nuclear weapons should be opposed.
Nuclear proliferation must be prevented and nuclear crisis avoided. China opposes the research, development and use of chemical and biological weapons by any country under any circumstances.

“White House Believed ‘Economic Nuclear Weapon’ Would End Russian War in Ukraine Top
administration officials thought Russian President Vladimir Putin would
back down if Washington stole hundreds of billions of dollars from
Moscow.”
When the world courts find that America owes Russia $300 Billion that it stole and another $10-$15 Billion for the pipeline America blew up America will end up giving Russia a half Trillion dollars.
Delicious karma!
All of the sanctions are of course illegal, but what does the USA care about international law or starving people, as the food and fertilizer from Russia cannot even reach Africa where people are desperate?
The Russian MOD is fighting a very successful war of attrition disarming NATO (Ukraine was disarmed in March), tank by tank, artillery by artillery, air defense by air defense.
NATO overall has accumulated the following equipment losses;
390 Aircraft, 210 helicopters, 3236 UAV’s, 405 Anti Aircraft systems, 8027 tanks inc. APC’s, 1045 multiple rocket launchers, 4215 rocket launchers and 8538 military automotive equipment.
What the empire looses in the Ukraine, they loose for the final Russian attack on NATO. Remember Russia attacked Ukraine just as NATO was about to unleash in the Donbass. Russia has shown they will pre-emptively attack to defend the Motherland when the time is dictated by events on the ground.
NATO countries continue to assume that Putin was driven out of Kyev. But there are a number of experts who think Putin made a big show of attacking Kyev to draw AFU forces away from the Donbass. That gave Russia the opportunity to do what he said he would do… protect the independent Republics. His actions in Georgia follow the same pattern. Protect what’s most important. But go no further.
Ukraine is different because NATO intervened. His goals changed to seize more than intended. But only enough to keep Russian cities out of the range of HIMARS and other long range weapons.
In my opinion, he won’t try to occupy western Ukraine unless he feels he has no other choice. But who knows?
“misinformation” is a synonym for “the truth”.
The USA is completely full of crap. I have posted the links before, that show that the US now has so many sanctions in place that they can’t even be counted. There are literally thousands of persons, countries, governments, institutions, and companies under unilateral, US sanctions. There are so many sanctions that they can’t even be listed in one place. There are lists of sanctions, and lists of lists of sanctions, and then even more sanction “programs” besides. Nobody in the world is good enough for the USA to simply trade with on an equitable basis. Nope. We must consult our annual State Department “human rights report card” and determine if a given country has “passed,” and lives up to the great moral example that we set, with our endless invasions, bombings, “special forces operations,” coups, assassinations, targeted killings, unlawful detentions, prisons filled to the bursting, cops shooting people in the streets, mass shootings, homelessness, malnutrition and lack of health care amid plenty and even great wealth, etc, etc., before we will deign to buy and sell from them, or allow others to do so, or, as in the case, simply refrain from stealing from them.
Sanction Nation will eventually become the loser as many nations will make moves to remove themselves from the U.S. based dollar system.
The rest of the world is watching. They’ve seen us lie and steal, and had to keep doing trade with us anyway just to buy oil. But they know, that’s what this war is really about. Russia is one of the major partners in BRICS which is a coalition of governments trying to find a way to trade outside the US system of sanctions and petrodollar warfare (tribute). Which is why we are risking everything to stop them.
I really wish some stray bit of that truth could penetrate all our propaganda: the world hates us because we steal and won’t let them trade without us, or we bomb them.
All these sanctions will hurt USA eventually, if not now. Because countries are afraid they might be sanctioned oneday, so they will try to leave the US Dollar. This is already gaining momentum. Sadly the US still doesn’t see it or doesn’t want to see it. When the day comes when enough countries shun the Dollar, we will be in hell!
Another factor for the war is that Russia is one of the last significant Nationalist countries that hasn’t given in to the Globalists one world order scheme.
international organizations point out that (US) sanctions have caused citizens of those countries to suffer.
isn’t that the entire point of sanctions?
“look what you made me do!”
……. Uncle Sam
One observation, There is an almost automatic thinking in all that. Always humanitarian agencies complaining how the lack of aid has harmed people, and citing sanctions as barrier.
This is false. Seen this game in oractice by workin in UN in East Africa and Yemen, These organizations use aid in number of ways. If a country allows it -/ then inevitably these agencies demand that inly grouos or individuals that are linked to Weatern organizations be allowed to receive snd didtribute aid. These groups use aid to then bribe more to get under their influence, Example — in Yemen back in seventies Government was aneinable to aid groups.
These groups than blatantly give those items to bribesble politicians and they sell it at good price to wholesalers and those to retailers, Items wit USAID label on rice and , flower bags and oil cans. On it it says “not to be sold or exchaned. Yet, they are on a shelfs of every grocery store.
After confiscate $300 billions of Russian money, the value of dollar will be nothing, as countries around the world including China and Germany will stop using dollar where they can, and many smaller countries abandon dollar completely.
This is a war between US and Russia, and Ukrainians are being used as cannon fodder. As Lloyd Austin, the sec. of Defense publicly said, the aim of this war is to weaken Russia.
I never knew how evil the American governments and elite really are.
Sanctions are evil. They kill people by slow starvation, including children, it is as evil as killing with bombs or chemicals. War on civilians, as criminal and evil as anything. They have killed millions by starvation.
Intel Slava Z
⚡️🇺🇦🇬🇧 General Sir Richard Barrons, former commander of UK Joint Forces Command, says Ukraine needs to keep 200,000 soldiers in the field to defend the 1,600-mile front line and maintain its strategy of stretching the Russian forces in as many places as possible.…
🇺🇦🇷🇺 However, Barrons argues that Ukraine needs ammunition even more than it needs soldiers. It fires 90,000 155mm shells a month and sometimes 6,000 shells a day but combined US and European production is less than 30,000 a month. “There is a mathematical mismatch,” he says. The US is tripling its output but “Europe has been too slow”.
“White House Believed ‘Economic Nuclear Weapon’ Would End Russian War in Ukraine”
Joey Balloon Boy Biden also believes that his dead son is a war hero, NOT; that he was elected to the White House, NOT; and that he can dictate to the world, NOT!
This war was provoked and incited in order to effect regime change in Russia. Independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine was possible while keeping the peace, but Biden and Blinken did not really value that, they only used that as distraction from their regime change project.
Now they have sacrificed not just Ukraine, but also the EU, and very likely the status quo of NATO as an institution. That is to say, they lost again in yet another regime change fiasco, just as these same people have chosen and then lost wars for the last twenty years.
Biden is aware how savage and brutal sanctions are. What a lowlife character the men really is. He has no integrity, and no soul.
There are no shortage of Americans who believe freezing American oligarch money would be a positive thing for the rest of the populace. Wonder whether it has freed Putin some from dealing with their influence.
I just came across some interesting news about Germany. The last two
major chemical companies Linde and BASF have shutdown their German
manufacturing plants. One moved operations to China the other stopped
operating. The cost of energy is prohibitive without Russian natural
gas and oil.

Displaced German workers are starting to become militant about their
economy collapsing. This weekend there was a small demonstration
at Ramstein AFB.
I was in Paris in the early 1970s when massive protests were happening
all over Europe against the Vietnam War. That was in a time when Europe
had enough energy and the people were comfortable and employed.

“Carl von Clausewitz (1780‐1831) developed a more accurate and realistic conception. For him, chance
in war is an inescapable yet ambiguous phenomenon: it can create
opportunities to be exploited or equally dash the best laid plans.”
Just wait until more European workers are out of work, cold, and unable to afford to live in Europe.
So how are the sanctions going so far?
“In the days after the invasion of Ukraine, the White House assessed
President Vladimir Putin would end the attack if the US froze over $300
billion owned by the Russian central bank. However, the Washington-led
economic war on Moscow has failed to have a major impact on the Russian
economy.”
Economic sanctions inflict damage, no matter if tehy are effective or not. It is a matter of time before the affected country acts on that. Countries like Cuba, Venezuela and the othersprobably cant act. Russia, despite its economy being the size of Italy’s has a nuclear arsenal. Will they iuse it?
Consider the following.
The US imposed an oil embargo on Japan in 1938. Japan, despite the odds of winningt were against it decided to attack. You can argue that they paid dearly and blah, blah blah, but Russia is not Japan and if they are cornered, the WILL react
The USA seems not to have noticed that the 300billion they stole from Russia has now been found- still in Russia. Check out the duran.
And they’re setting up China for confiscation & debt renunciation on the basis of China’s “supplying materiel” to Russia’s war effort.
The Moronic DC Politicians…! They’re born as Morons…. They live their life as Morons…. And then they die as Morons…!
If there was only a market for stupidity the US would be a world leader.
Just when I think the children and idiot Marxists running the Biden administration can’t be any more stupid, they always muster up more stupidity. The BRICS nations now have the US in checkmate, and the Biden administration is too dumb to even realize it. Not one of these idiots, including (and especially) Yellen have a clue what money is.
