The New York Times reported on Wednesday that despite the billions of dollars in weapons the US is sending Ukraine, Kyiv has shared few details on its operational plans with Washington.
Current and former officials told the Times that US intelligence agencies have a far better picture of Russia’s military operations than Ukraine’s. Even in high-level talks with Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Mark Milley, Ukrainian officials have only shared their strategic goals, not their operational plans.
Washington has such little information on Ukraine’s operations that it has tried to learn information from other countries operating in Ukraine, training sessions with Ukrainian forces, and even from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s public comments.
While Zelensky and other Ukrainian officials constantly make claims about the state of Russia’s forces, things like Ukrainian casualties have been a closely guarded secret, until very recently. Last week, Zelensky said Ukraine was losing between 60 and 100 troops each day as the fighting against Russia rages in the east.
The officials said that Ukraine’s government wants to project an image of strength to its close partners, so they continue providing military aid. The report says the lack of US knowledge is because Washington has focused its intelligence capabilities to be used against adversaries like Russia while helping partners like Ukraine boost their own intelligence services.
Despite the lack of a clear picture of what’s going on in Ukraine, the US continues to pour weapons into the country. In the latest escalation of military aid, the Biden administration said it will send Ukraine rocket systems capable of hitting targets up to 50 miles away.
On top of the lack of knowledge of Ukraine’s operations, there is also no oversight of the billions in weapons the US is sending to the country. CNN reported in April that the US has “almost zero” ability to track the weapons it is sending once they enter Ukraine. One source briefed on US intelligence described it as dropping the arms into a “big black hole.”
Great, operational security it is a thing.
The Ukrainian generals have so far showed exceptional capabilities, all the US needs to to do is continue delivering heavier weapons. Spain is sending Leopard tanks, the US should send more HIMARS and some UAVs too!
Identity Thief. Disregard.
Chill, comrade.
Leopard tanks are the offspring of the Nazi Panzerkampfwagen VI by Porsche. It was the only German tank which was a serious threat for the Soviet T34 because of its 88 mm long-distance cannon.
Leopard tanks are considered to be superior to any other NATO-produced tank.
Being Ukraine and its history of shortchanging its own soldiers, you can pick them up on the black market soon.
“The Ukrainian generals so far have (sic) showed exceptional capabilities”
That’s rich given that this is a US war against Russia were orders are given directly from the Pentagram and their (and CIA’s) command centers in Kiev and Lvov, to the ukie forces on the ground on tablets and mobile devices, especially the Nazi death squads leading them.
But thing is, and its a well known fact, that the Ukie Nazi’s in general don’t think the US has anything useful to add to how they fight their war against the “untermenschen” the “cockroaches” and the “Orc’s” (Russian speaking ukranians) and they’re right. US don’t. Standard Pentagram advices to these kind of proxy forces whether they’re ISIS, al-quaeda or Nazi death squads as we have seen everywhere from Iraq, Syria and indeed in the ukraine, is among other things, terror tactics, to use civilians as human shields and move these “shields” around if necessary. They already knew that, they’ve perfected it and has done so ever since WW2. They don’t care about US advices. What they want is the hardware.
Dragged out in the open, deprived of their “shields”, they’re nothing. Russia makes mincemeat of the cowards.
Seems to me the Urkainian military was happy to use the human shield stategy and terror tactics too. No doubt the USA did suggest them, but let’s not absolve the Ukrainians either.
Ukraine is not obliged to give information to any one in USA. Informations reach where ever it is intended to. May be Tel Aviv, may be AIAPC or ADL office. Any way it is no concern of a geographical mass that is called USA. Its duty is doll out dollar, send arms and equipments and give diplomatic protection etc. Then send American boys to fight and die for those in command. It is 55th anniversary USS Liberty murder and America is not allowed remember let alone mourn
“One source briefed on US intelligence described it as dropping the arms into a “big black hole.” The big black hole is already there. Agreeing to be dragged into a nuclear armagaddon that we prompted with our own shenanigans under the guise of a desperately needed humanitarian intervention requires a big black hole in the head.
Great comment!!!!!
And why should they? The US maintains that it does not seek war with Russia and is simply helping Ukraine defend itself. That is, of course, a load of baloney; but assuming it were true, then the US would have no need of “operational intel” as the conduct of the war is Ukraine’s business, not ours.
What kind of operational information is Ukraine supposed to be sharing? How many different ways can you say “being wiped out”?
Here just to read the war experts on Putin’s side.
I think the “operational plans” include lining some pockets.
The world after anti-Russian sanctions according to Dmitry Medvedev:
1 A number of global supply chains are collapsing.
2 The energy crisis will deepen, fossil fuel prices will continue to rise.
3 The international food crisis will lead to famine in some countries.
4 Monetary and financial crisis will deepen, instability of some national currencies, runaway inflation and the destruction of the legal system protecting private property.
5 New regional military conflicts.
6 Terrorism will become more active.
7 New epidemics will break out caused by the Western development and use of biological weapons.
8 International Western institutions have lost all credibility.
9 New international alliances are forming.
10 New security architectures are being created.
This is the end of the Western hegemony over the globe. The Western world has collapsed in a pile of its own corrupt filth. What i call FASCISM.
The Moral of your story is, let Russia attack any country and do whatever it wants because the ramifications of sanctions have a bigger impact in the global stage.
MARVELOUS.
I think what the US soldiers and spies are really saying is that (1) Ukraine is losing, and they don’t want to be blamed for that, and (2) not only is Ukraine losing, but from a strictly military point of view, they are losing in a stupid way. It appears Zelensky is overruling his own generals and the USA and NATO “advisors” and cancelling retreat orders from the Donbas. Militarily, that makes no sense. The Ukrainians should pull back, shorten their lines, avoid encirclement, and live to fight another day. Rather than “counterattack” right into an encirclement and follow a “stand or die” strategy when hopelessly outnumbered, outgunned, and cut off from supply. Perhaps Zelensky fears bucking the hard line, never retreat, every inch of 1991 Ukraine must be recovered, neo Nazis. They would happily kill him as a “stab in the back” traitor if he makes a deal or even orders a general retreat. Zelensky being Jewish, and having actually won election on a dovish policy platform, and coming from the “decadent” entertainment industry too, don’t exactly endear him to the Azov Battalion types either. Or, perhaps Zelensky is getting high on his own supply, and now believes all the bullshit and lies about Ukraine winning the war. Perhaps he is just playing for time, hoping that by not retreating, the weakness of his forces can be hidden from the world until the Brand New Ukrainian Army armed with those NATO “wonder weapons” appears on the western horizon, which will happen any day now!
I think the US “advisors” were more than happy to take credit for Ukraine’s military performance early in the war. And, to be fair, perhaps it was those US advisors who suggested the defend the cities strategy, which worked well militarily and even better in terms of PR and politics and propaganda. But no US military advisor would suggest what Zelensky is doing now. And rather than directly criticize it, these guys are saying that they don’t “understand” it or that they have no “intel” about it.
Biden should resign because putting this world in KAOS is his product.
Sanctioning Russia and using food for weapons is unheard-of? Not really,it’s just like sunctions, using as a Weapons,I guess if other countries does it,is weapons,if Biden does it,well; if people didn’t die it would be an Irish joke.
Of course, the most corrupt country in the world is not cooperating with America.
They are selling American and European weapons on the open market with impunity.
Want a Javelin missile: It is only $30,000 asking price on the dark web. Want a stinger MANPAD it is just as cheap.
Just like everything Joe Biden touches he turns it into a fiasco. From the economy to Afghanistan to Ukraine to China this illicit government is awash in failure. This is what happens when your criminal demoRat party steals and election and installs a boob so obama can call the shots.
