US special operations forces are continuing a mission to train troops in Ukraine amid heightened tensions with Russia, Stars and Stripes reported on Wednesday.
An undisclosed number of US special operators has been training Ukrainian forces inside Ukraine for several years under a mission led by US Special Operations Command Europe (SOCEUR).
“The bottom line is that our training mission in Ukraine is ongoing,” said Lt. Col. Juan Martinez, a spokesman for SOCEUR. “We continue to view our mission in Ukraine as part of an ongoing effort in enhancing Special Operations Forces capabilities as a keystone for regional stability.”
There is a renewed focus on the presence of US military personnel in Ukraine as the White House is claiming Russia is preparing to invade the country. Besides the special operations, there are also about 100 US National Guard troops in Ukraine.
US training and support for Ukraine’s military is a major point of tensions between the US and Russia, and the cooperation goes far beyond the special operators’ mission. Since the 2014 US-backed coup in Kyiv, the US has provided about $2.5 billion in military aid to Ukraine.
Last week, Yahoo News reported that the CIA has been training Ukrainian paramilitaries at a base inside the United States since 2015. The New York Times reported that the Biden administration is considering backing an insurgency in Ukraine if Russia invades.
They better hope they’re far away from the contact line in the next 2-6 weeks.
So do you think the Russians will move in that time frame ? I don’t think Putin will order an invasion . He’ll do something else I think. Something similar to Cuba 1962.

The Soviet Union never sought to “surround” the USA. It put missiles in Cuba at the request of the Castro whom the CIA was trying to remove from power. If it was a true “reversal” Russia would have had to have missiles in Canada, off both coasts, Mexico and even the Gulf of Mexico. That’s the reality that Russia faces today- a creeping mindless attack monsters trying to surround and isolate it as ANY preparation for attack would look like! Historically, if the USA had just minded its own business and treated the world with respect and honesty this world would be in a lot better shape!
The Soviet Union put missiles in Cuba in response to the US putting missiles in Turkey. And pulled them out when the US did the same.
On that count, Castro did as he was told by his patrons/sponsors, and probably wasn’t too happy about it insofar as it increased, rather than decreased, the chance that he’d live a much shorter life.
We pulled the missiles out of Turkey all right. Older missiles that we replaced with newer, more advanced missiles. We pulled a fast one on Russia.
It may have been a fast one being pulled, but those were the stakes. Castro was convenient for the Soviet play in the situation — “you put missiles on our border, we put missiles on yours” — not someone begging for the missiles to be stationed there.
He is moving missiles to Venezuela.Putin may pull a surprise thrust to grab the Baltic States-his father was badly injured there during WW2.

Won’t be an “invasion”. It will be a response to a Ukraine attack on Donbass. Of course, the CIA and neocon schedule could be different, even as late as summer. But I think Ukraine is going to use the NATO military exercises that start in February. Also the Olympics are in February and previous CIA operations against Russia were begun during previous Olympics. notably the Maidan coup.
Why, are they not big, bad, tough, USA warriors? Maybe more blown apart and burned subjects for Stiller to pay off houses for and the “Wounded Warrior Project”,,gotta keep them going I guess…….

Is this going to be like the insurgency in Syria? I have worked with the insurgency in Syria, it cannot divest it’s interests from Al-Qaeda for any amount of US backing. Now we sanction the civilians into starvation, human and organ trafficking.

Washington right now is a run away train, heading to WWIII and off the
rails at the same time. When domestic issues go bad, start a war. Draft
all the young men who would be the first to rebel, and give war jobs to
the rest of the people. But, if it does happen, it won’t be an ‘over
there’ war like the others, this time we’ll see our own homes, cities
destroyed and our children lying dead in the rubble. That’s what Wash.
has done with our taxes since the end of WWII. How many wars, how many
lives, how much destruction will Americans put up with? Vietnam, Korea
and Afghanistan wars had thousands of deaths and casualties and they
were all in vain. Wash. just lost a war, so in their insane minds they
want to start another one? Why? ‘When will they ever learn?’ They won’t
without an anti war movement from both factions.
