Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Chief of Staff Aviv Kohavi said on Tuesday that he ordered the military to draw up new plans to attack Iran’s nuclear program. He also warned the new Biden administration against reviving the Iran nuclear deal, known as the JCPOA.
“I have ordered the IDF to prepare a number of operational plans, in addition to the existing ones,” Kohavi said. “We are studying these plans and we will develop them over the next year.”
Kohavi’s comments are just the latest threatening comments towards Iran from Israeli officials. Earlier this month, an Israeli minister from the Likud party said Israel will have to attack Iran if the Biden administration returns to the JCPOA.
Warning against a revival of the JCPOA in his comments on Tuesday, Kohavi said the new administration should not let up the pressure that the Trump administration left on Iran in the form of crippling economic sanctions.
“These pressures must continue. No matter what happens. Anything that releases that pressure gives them oxygen gives them air and will allow them to continue to violate the current agreement,” he said.
Kohavi, like most Israeli officials, warned that Iran is racing to develop a nuclear weapon. He cited Iran’s recent decision to increase uranium enrichment to 20 percent as an example of this. But uranium enriched at 20 percent has a civilian purpose. It is used to make fuel rods for the Tehran Research Reactor, a facility built by the US in the 1960s that can make medical isotopes.
The Iranians only recently decided to increase enrichment to 20 percent as a response to the assassination of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, the prominent Iranian scientist who was killed in an apparent Israeli plot.
Iran has also made it clear that they will return to compliance with the JCPOA if the US lifts sanctions. Returning to compliance means reducing uranium enrichment and other violations of the deal that Kohavi cited as reasons to plan an attack on Iran.
Military forces are always drawing up plans for offense and defense, that’s just what they do. But plans don’t accomplish anything unless they are enacted, and Israel won’t do anything by itself against Iran. That would be Israel’s demise. Precision guided missiles from Iran and Hezbollah would take out Israel cities.
True, but I’d like to hear in response from some people drawing up plans to attack Israel.
Those are not talking.
I wondered about the silence emanating from Baghdad and Damascus following Israeli targeting border areas, or other areas in Syria in search of “Iranians” or Hezbollah.
Silence is emanating from many quarters lately. Particularly Russia and China.
With so much political chaos in Israel, it is quite possible that the noise is meant to get Israeli public opinion back into thinking war.
But Israel must be aware that China made rather clear commitment to defending Iran. And Caspian Sea states will have to do the same — Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan.
No, this is not serious. Israel, just like US has no serious missile defense system. Touted Iron Dome is very old technology. Simply counting on US to rattle the region, and remain safe.
But there is a fine line between warmongering for political purposes, and starting something one cannot control.
As I commented, of course these plans exist in all Israel enemies. Why should they comment on them when they don’t depend upon BS propaganda like Israel does? Since Israel lost to Hez it’s been trying to come back, verbally. That’s all, just idle chatter. It’s the precision missiles Israel is scared of, rightfully.
Buried under a pile of rubble.
Height of hypocrisy. Complaining about Iranian violations of the NPT while you refuse to join.
I love how Israel is the authority on nuclear safety when they have the most successful black market nuke program in the history of mankind. If Oman wants to chastise Iran’s program, go for it. But Israel should be commanded to f**k all the way off. They have zero moral high ground to speak of. A genocidal pirate nation armed to the tits with WMD’s they stole from us and sold to Apartheid South Africa.
“stole from us”….actually, I believe the US gave them operable nukes in 1967 during the 6 day war. USS Liberty was attacked to cover up the delivery.
With Netanyahu’s corruption trial looming; with Israel’s political system in the state of disarray which no elections seem able to stabilize; by pushing the U.S. to get out of JCPOA which led to an Iran closer to the A Bomb today than ever before, it’s very obvious why Israel is so frustrated.
All this on top of a bad economic condition in Israel on top of a colorful arrays of social upheavals it’s facing today which pro-Israel media (almost all major Western outlets- without exception) are silent about, makes me wonder whether Israel is truly sustainable as a nation should we ever cut the tentacles here in the U.S.?
Israel’s biggest enemy is Israel, not Iran!
We must credit Israel on its ability to buy US congressmen and (now) US administration appointees. A country smaller than New Jersey with less people gifted with five billion bucks a year plus unlimited regional support.
Rule of Law is played out like a Shakespeare tragedy on the worlds stage. Nakba every day in a vicious, disgusting ,insane loop
Israel cannot do Sh*t…!
They can get the US into a major war. Pelosi is working on buying some stock already. Missiles, gas masks and all kinds of military investments.

The Elon Musk “Crypto System” does not exist. It is a fraud.
What link?
Check your disqus history. It was a reply to your doodaa to netman comment above. I reported it as spam and blocked the scammer, so maybe that resulted in its removal.
Disqus tries to catch spam, and seems to catch most of it (unfortunately, it also sometimes thinks non-spam is spam).
Additionally, I watch for it and delete it whenever I see it (and rescue non-spam comments that got blocked when I see those as well). But user flagging of spam definitely helps and I greatly appreciate it.
Trying to decide how many nukes to use and whether or not to add Syria to the list along with Iran and Lebanon. The Christians are on his side, killing 500,000 people means nothing as long as they can quote Ezekiel.
Next “stimulus” bill will pass easily with an added one trillion $ for Israel’s “Iron Dome”. Forget about the promised $1,400. Gotta’ raise taxes to the ceiling instead for our “allie”.
