According to a report from Bloomberg, Joe Biden’s team plans to move the US closer to normalized relations with Cuba by reversing some of the sanctions and restrictions implemented by President Trump.
The report cited unnamed sources who said the plan is to reduce restrictions on travel, investment, and remittances, policies that hurt ordinary Cubans and Americans. In November, Western Union suspended operations in Cuba after new US sanctions kicked in, making it more difficult for Americans to send remittances to the island nation.
The sources said sanctions on Cuba related to alleged human rights abuses would not be lifted, which leaves a lot of wiggle room for Biden to leave some of the sanctions in place.
The Obama administration made efforts to normalize with Cuba by opening diplomatic ties, loosening travel and trade restrictions, and delisting Cuba as a state sponsor of terror. But President Obama never fully lifted the trade embargo, and President Trump was able to easily reverse most of Obama’s policies.
In September, President Trump announced new sanctions on Cuba. The measures block US citizens from staying at hotels owned by the Cuban government and restrict the export of Cuban liquor and cigars.
Suspend ALL sanctions against Cuba, Venezuela and Iran (and China, Russia, etc.)!

If we were consistent with this we’d have to sanction the vast majority of our allies along with ourselves.
Given today’s madness, if he follows through with it, I’d call this heroic. He will be called an appeaser and a coward. Bravery is starving people in a country with 1/100th your population and 1/1000th your GDP.
It really is time to forgive Cuba for nationalizing the Mafia casinos .
The only good foreign policy moves Obama achieved were with Iran and Cuba. Reversing these gains was one of Trumps most foolish actions.
If we could somehow combine Trumps Russia and North Korea peace moves with positive Iran and Cuba moves then we will have progress.
However I fear it’s just going to be good cop/bad cop as usual an the new administration will just add China to the hit list along with Russia, NK, Syria etc.
Yemen is more the norm as a bipartisan example of US policy across administrations.
Trump was more belligerent towards Russia than Obama. His photo ops with Kim were a waste of time.
Yes but considering the pressure the McCarthyites, (I mean Democrats) were putting on him he did pretty valiantly. Double standards in media. When Obama was friendly to Russia the media supported him but they were total hypocrites regarding Russia and Trump. I will never take the Democrats seriously and haven’t since Clinton’s wars.
He didn’t do anything. He slapped more sanctions on them, said they should “give back” Crimea and dropped out of treaties. And according to Sy Hersch he also didn’t want to give the Russian’s a heads up in the missile attack on Syria but had to be talked into it by none other than the deep state members he had appointed to his administration. And whether the media was supportive of Obama being “friendly” toward Russia, the McCarthyites(I mean republicans) were as hostile to it as the McCarthyites(I mean democrats)were.
I agree he didnt do anything but the pressure and Russia conspiracy campaign from the democrats could have easily caused a war. If Obama was so great toward Russia why did he allow the FBI under his rule to farm out the Steele Dossier etc. To say Obama was good with Russia is untrue. His adminidtrations actions towards Trump and Russia set back peace by decades.
I didn’t say Obama was “good” towards Russia, only that Trump was more belligerent. When Obama proposed a “reset” with Russia, the GOP was hardly on board and that was very early on in his first term so I’m not sure just who set back peace by decades. Obama’s actions were continued under Trump no matter what Trump said about getting along with Russia. If you want to blame Russia-gate for Trump’s actions towards Russia, fine, but they are what they are. Belligerent.
Yes I agree. A point I lose sight of whe ndefending against Russiagate. Peace.
