Iranian President Hassan Rouhani spoke at a news conference in Tehran on Monday and said there is video evidence of an Iranian tanker getting hit by two missiles off the coast of Saudi Arabia, although the video has not yet been released.
The Sabiti is an Iranian-owned oil tanker that officials said was struck in the Red Sea on Friday by two projectiles. At the time of the incident, the Sabiti was 60 miles off the coast of the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah.
Earlier on Monday, Iran released pictures of the damage that was done to the tanker. The pictures show two separate holes on the side of the ship just above the waterline.
Rouhani did not assign blame for the attack but said, “It wasn’t an act by terrorists, by an individual, a group. It was done by a government.” Rouhani called it a “hostile and treacherous act” and said there would be consequences. Saudi Arabia has denied any involvement in the attack.
The attack comes during heightened tensions between Iran and Saudi Arabia. A September 14th attack on Saudi oil infrastructure was blamed on Iran, even though Yemen’s Houthis immediately claimed responsibility. The U.S. responded by sending thousands of additional troops to Saudi Arabia.
It’s amazing to me how someone is always standing or flying or boating around a tanker with a camera when a “surprise” attack occurs.
I suppose this is the “Youtube generation” so everyone is waiting for something to happen everywhere so they can post it on Youtube. 🙂
Not at all inconceivable that deck cameras are operating all the time
on a ship. You do realize that cameras, storage and the associated electronics are incredibly simple and cheap?—certainly compared to a ship.
Tankers are highly flammable, they are bigger than aircraft carriers, yet have crews of under 30 people. They have video systems monitoring the entire ship, as the only way even to see what is happening. This is just a reality of huge ships, tiny crews, and very dangerous cargo.
Some other ships don’t have this, but should. The really big container ships would benefit, not just to avoid losing containers, but to avoid storm damage that could sink a ship. See what happened in a storm to sink SS El Faro. The same is true of the huge ore carriers with crews less than 20 on Lake Superior lost to progressive deck damage in storms, such as the Edmund Fitzgerald, probably lost to damaged deck hatches that couldn’t be monitored in the storm.
In sum, yeah, they’ve got video. That isn’t a fake.
The Red Sea is 350 miles away from the Persian Gulf (graphic shown) . There are no territorial problems with most of the Red Sea.
Well, we know it was Israel trying to start a war between Iran and Saudi Arabia, which would lead to us getting involved yet again in a war for Israel.
Very likely. We don’t “know” it yet. At least, we are hiding the evidence if we’ve got it.
This sounds very much like what happened to the first four tankers. That would imply it has all been a false flag operation to foment a US war with Iran. The most likely candidate for operations in all of these areas is Israel, and they have motive and proven ability to do such attacks.
Kafirstan Saudi Arabia probably had a hand in it.
Israel evidently can launch cruise missiles from their submarines.
