Several former high-level military and intelligence officials took out a full page ad in Monday’s Washington Post urging President Obama to resist pressure to attack Iran nuclear program.
The letter retired Army Maj. Gen. Paul Eaton, retired Army Lt. Gen. Robert G. Gard Jr., retired Marine Gen. Joseph Hoar, retired Army Brig. Gen. John H. Johns, retired Army Maj. Gen. Rudolph Ostovich III, former deputy director of National Intelligence for analysis Thomas Fingar, former CIA national intelligence officer Paul Pillar, and retired Army Col. Lawrence Wilkerson.
The page is headlined “Mr. President: Say No to a War of Choice with Iran,” and is sponsored by the National Iranian American Council, a non-partisan, non-profit organization headquartered in Washington. The letter states that “not every challenge has a military solution” and “unless we or an ally is attacked, war should be the option of last resort.
The ad also features quotations by current and former senior military and intelligence officials explaining why attacking Iran is the wrong move. Those include Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey, Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, former CENTCOM Commander Gen. Anthony Zinni, and former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Michael Mullen.

Is Obama going to listen and obey the dictates of a foreign gangster government and ignore the expert advise of his own generals ? If he follows Israeli/Aipac dictates and goes against US interests does that not make him a traitor of his own country ? I think he is !
We might want to remember it was Israel that attacked the USS Liberty killing 34 Americans! And the 1983 Beruit USMC barracks bombing, which killed 241 American servicemen: 220 Marines, 18 Navy personnel and 3 Army soldiers, Israel who knew in advance (some insist Israel was the actual prepetrator) refused to warn the Americans saying 'it was not their job'! Why on earth would the United States of America do anything for Israel? If Israel chooses to attack Iran, the US Military should use all means necessary to prevent it!!
Maybe the weapons program doesn't exist… today. But there's only one reason to refine weapons grade uranium.
yes, enriching to 95% can only be useful for a weapon….its a good thing therefore, that Iran has NOT enriched any uranium above 20%, which would only be hot enough to burn your hand and give you cancer. The IAEA has been also verified repeatedly that Iran has not enriched any uranium above 20% so i hope you are not creating some moronic fantasy in your head about iranian nuclear bombs like some slack jawed illiterate hillbilly
And don't you think the continuous threats to Iran are just the thing to push anyone into reaction in self-defence? How would you behave?
That's fine. But don't try to tell me they don't want a bomb.
They're not refining to 90%. Stop drinking Kool-Aid made from Jaffa oranges.
They would if they could, just haven't got there yet.
OOOOOO jsington…. Dude…. to what % doez Israel enrich…….??????? It's a number no- one knoz
One would hope that this President would take the mantra often times put forth by the opposition party, especially the war hawks and warmongers like the 3 Stooges (McCain, Graham, and Lieberman), of "Listen to the Generals on the ground."
One would also hope that there are active duty Generals and advisers who believe, as these letter-writers do, that war, at the behest of Israel, would be a very bad thing for the United States.
But, I'm not going to hold my breath.
While I applaud their actions, i wonder what they would do if they were NOT – NOT – safely retired?
They'd be kissing a**. That's all generals do.
AIPAC is a Zionist organization, presenting those who have double standard regarding US policies especially when is about Middle east. You want to know about their hegemony then you need to know Paul Wolfowitz the father of US zionism. Yet, AIPAC is a organization both in terms of politics and economic, some of the 1% are hidden among these people, some are open and working with some senators in both sides making all kind of business deal we all know that. The question is this: can a organization as AIPAC have such influence and impact on US president where he or she needs to talk to AIPAC first before acting on any issues, or getting their support first, if thats the case then US and its social politics is not about American people but rather is about those who have and control the US government, then again it is about the people and their votes that needs to be count not a organization.
At the same time, part of US government dealing with dictators (Saudis – UAE and etc) in all forms and shapes again doing business and even starting a war or two for them’ which again makes the US government not independent as they say they are, so what is left..? here and certainly the american peoples are suffering, those whom are lagging behind working for these organizations as slaves while the homeless numbers in USA is growing. If any one can call this a "functioning democracy" that person is part of falsified democracy, is one of those who supports these organized crime families rather then the american working people.
It seems like the active-duty side are no more happy with the idea of bombing Iran. I suspect some would be familiar with Stalin's remark to the British prior to Munich. "If war comes, how many divisiions will the British send?" The answer came back: "two now, and two later." And Stalin said, "if we go to war with Germany we wil have to put two hundred divisions in the field."
Similarly, to war on Iran, Israel proposes to send twenty-five F-15s, and a few dozen F-16's. For this existential threat they see, they are intending to risk perhaps a hundred pilots.
They then blandly call on the United States to put in harms way a thousand planes, four or five aircraft carriers, hundreds of supporting ships and bases, and tens of thousands of ground troops, leading up to an invasion that might require conscription.
Chutzpah barely describes it.
&&&&&&&&&&& after "Georgia", we really do not KNOW what surprises the Russians, China and crew could bring to the scene…….
Not only unnecessary and dangerous but completely illegal, criminal and in the interest of nobody except war profiteers.
It is refreshing to see that there are still quite a number of individuals of sane mind in the USA; alas they are not in power. Having said that, nothing will prevent the mad Zionists from attacking Iran, knowing full well that the U.S. will follow.
The U.S. would not hesitate for a moment, and it would not listen to anybody, if it wanted to attack Iran. The only reason it doesn’t attack is because the cost is prohibitive! End of discussion.
Israel knows that if it attacks Iran, America will be sucked in. In fact that is its plan. Therefore Isreal, not congress has the power to declare war for the US.
The US will certainly be sucked into an Israeli attack on Iran, but Netanyahu also is very cognizant that should that happen it is quite likely that every American life and every dollar spent in defense of Israel will be hung around its neck.
THAT is why during his trip to DC he would have pushing hard behind the scenes to goad Obama into agreeing to attack Iran in the future in return for him not attacking today in an election year that would have uncertain consequences to Obama's re-election chances. Obama would be an idiot to agree make such a deal with the devil. Netanyahu will push hard to get Obama to agree to do Israel's dirty work. Obama might even agree if he can win concessions from Netanyahu on Palestinians.
Israel will not use planes to attach Iran, but sub missiles. The planes are to be used to carpet bomb southern Lebanon with small bunker buster bombs prior to occupation and annexation. The US will be left to fight Iran.
Iran is not the problem. Israel and the US are the problem. The best thing that could ever happen is for Iran to acquire several hundred nuclear weapons. That way, Israel and the US would be forced to leave them alone and allow the Iranian people to continue living in peace and prosperity.
MR. PRESIDENT..DON'T ALLOWED TO BE BULLIED AND DISRESPECTED BY PM OF ISRAEL..IF ISRAEL WANT 'S WAR..LET THEM DO IT ALONE..WE HAVE OUR WARS TO DEAL WITH..NO MORE KILLING OUR YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN..ISRAEL ""MUST BE FAIR AND SQUARE AND STOP THE LAND DOMINATION THAT IS NOT THEIRS AND SIGN THE PEACE AGREEMENT WITH PALESTINE..MOST OF OUR COUNTRY DOES NOT WANT TO GO TO WAR ANY MORE"""" **WE WANT PEACE**
The BIG irony here is that America is the only county EVER to use a nuclear bomb on another country.
