Israel’s Strategic Affairs Ministry was initially created as a ministry whose sole purpose was to try to talk up a war with Iran. These days the ministry’s purview is expanding, and Minister Gilad Erdan was responsible for a new, and controversial ban on members of a list of NGOs that are seen as pro-BDS, favoring boycotts to protest Israeli misdeeds.
This has fueled a lot of opposition backlash, with many waring that it’s just going to further distance those NGOs from the situation inside Israel and make changing their minds harder. Yair Lapid called the bill “idiotic,” saying it was absurd to try to fight boycotts with another boycott.
Included on the 20 banned NGOs is the Quaker American Friends Service Committee, which won a 1947 Nobel Peace Prize for helping refugees flee the Holocaust during WW2. US-based Jewish Voice for Peace was also on the blacklist, which Lapid say was particularly dumb since, as a group with Jewish members, they could all come to Israel under Israeli law irrespective of this ban.
Erdan defended the move, arguing anyone who supports BDS is trying to “do Israel harm,” and banning them protests Israeli citizens. He also added that anyone who criticized the move had proven they are unfit to lead Israel.because of that position.
I’m glad to see that at least SOMETHING is helping in the fight against the genocide of the Palestinians, though I’d like to see the rest of the world actually use force against Israel instead of everyone “condemning” them, which actually does nothing.
BDS is force.. It’s the one thing they fear the most – like a crucifix to a vampire.

BDS isn’t going to kill anyone. It’s designed to shame a shameless people into doing the right thing. If they’re as smart as they claim to be, they will.
BDS is not punishment. It is a voluntary, peaceful method to try to get Israel to follow international law. I suppose that is too much to ask- after all, the USA never bothers to follow international law. and allows its “Congress” to be bought anb intimidated by Israel.

What’s really scary is that 20 states in the U.S. also have anti-boycott Israel legislation. An example is Texas. In order to teach in the public school system, an applicant must agree to not boycott Israel as part of the process. The fact that anyone has to agree to not boycott ANYTHING is pretty scary. Add in the fact that it has to do with a foreign nation and the ante is raised.
Texas also has a lager effect by producing lots of the textbooks used in schools all over the USA.
And they can add Norway’s largest trade union body, who voted in favor of economic, cultural, and academic boycott of Israel over its treatment of Palestinians.
