As Yemeni officials continue to present their security forces as Johnny-on-the-spot when dealing with militants, they claimed today that the forces had killed the two militants responsible for threats against US and European embassies.
Britain and the United States closed their embassies yesterday over the growing threat of al-Qaeda in the country, though Yemen insisted the threat was “exaggerated.”
Despite their palpable confidence, France followed suit and closed their embassy today. Japan suspended their own consular service, and Spain severely curtailed their embassy’s activity.
Western officials haven’t commented on the exact reason for the closures, though reports have the Yemeni government losing track of six truckloads of weapons and explosives that entered the capital city, apparently hijacked by the militants. It does not appear that the trucks have been recovered.
