The locals don’t want to be colonized and will keep fighting until the colonizers leave. The colonizers don’t want to leave and keep making deranged comments about ‘staying the course’, “the white man’s burden”, or ‘fighting them over there instead of over here’. It all ends the same way, but I doubt it’ll take decades before they’re forced out. That’s how guerrilla wars tend to work. English people don't really have a very firm idea of what the KKK are, so this comparison is only going to earn howls from newspaper people who might actually know a bit of American history, and every other Briton will say, WTF? Unfortunately, it seems we have the same sort of situation as in Victorian times - a bunch of politicians wanting to be a Great Power, a stupid by-jingo army fed on Kipling (still! it's true, they love it!*), and some Afghans who are rather good at killing Englishmen through force of circumstance.
