"The State Department claims to be 'in constant contact' with a number of social media outlets about the situation, which will likely fuel speculation that the US government is backing yet another color-coded revolution."

The FedGov isn't even trying to hide its involvement in the color-coded revolution in Iran. The Iranian exile communities in the West are undoubtedly providing cadres for the street protests, which are in turn being coordinated by Western governments. The FedGov is not the only Western government involved; the German Foreign Ministry, for example, has been distinguishing itself by its unctuous and obnoxious lecturing of the Iranian government to surrender to the protests. Fortunately, the Iranian government seems to have caught on to these machinations before the election and had contingencies in place to combat the color-coded revolution.
